The U.S.G.N. has been moved to a new server. The change occurs automatically for most users.

• To all CS2D players:
Everyone who edited the file sys/usgn.dat has to make sure that the first line contains either usgn.de or the NEW IP 85.214.102.60
(85.214.77.150 is the old IP! replace it!)

• To all CS2D server hosters:
Please completely restart your CS2D servers (not just a mapchange/round restart). This is necessary to make the servers use the new U.S.G.N. server. Also make sure that usgn.dat contains the right address (see instruction above)

× Attention - DNS:
It can take up to 48 hours before the DNS changes the entries for usgn.de in your region. Use the direct IP (85.214.102.60) in sys/usgn.dat if you are still using the old USGN server (or better: wait some hours).

√ How to check that you are using the right server?
Simply start CS2D and enter usgn_info in the console.
IP 85.214.102.60 is the new server √
IP 85.214.77.150 is the old server ×

usgn.de is hosted by strato (a german webhosting website)
and the new unrealsoftware.de will be hosted on xantron i guess - i am not sure! (also german)

before I had the usgn on a weaker strato vserver and most websites were hosted by all-inkl.com

usgn downtimes were (in nearly all cases) not caused by server downtimes but by instability/security holes of the usgn masterserver program
(and lack of automatic usgn masterserver restart)

Nope, Hitsu told me that my server went fine and map loaded fast (512kb downloaded in 5 seconds) he said... and that never happened before. I think that's because of the new server. Great work DC!!

it's still relatively fast for german players and several milliseconds slower for everyone else since the server is located in germany. sorry - not enough time/money for a world wide server infrastructure for the USGN


@KimKat:
it's probably time to repeat it again:

the USGN DOES NOT affect the speed of CS2D servers in any way. it DOES NOT influence server pings and it DOES NOT influence file transfer speeds.

it's just about serverlist (LOADING it, NOT pinging the servers and NOT requesting infos from them)/version check/friends - and that's it. nothing else! please go to www.usgn.de and click the "learn more" lightbulb to see how it works
