i also use spybot and hijackfree (not really an antivirus)
My first was kaspersky, it was like after few days when bought mah old pc, after that, guy which is cool with PC's gaved me a nod, after nod i used avast because of nod license time :q
in new PC was w/o antivirus untill my router was poisoned :q

i know some basics and what is Wine, but i dont really need it now to use
Norton, should be detected as a virus itself...
Sophos is more of a corporate antivirus.
NOD32 is what i use, and it has pretty amazing
detection.
Kapersky has one of the higher detection rates.
Avast! Free is (should be) number 2 at least in
anti-virus software, as good as most paid ones.
Avira also^
MSE is doing very good considering its a newcomer.

HijackThis, is good to have and Sandboxie.
it's not better than all of the antivirus software- its just an antispyware/malware program.
HijackThis is usually used for the logs only, and sandboxie for browser protection.
