I'm amused with the problems people encounter using Windows and even more amusing are the so called "solutions" to those problems.
I've noticed the common method of dealing with them, proposed by people on the internet:

1. Restart
2. Delete the mentioned file
3. Install dozens of CleanUpVirusesAndOtherStuff®©™ programs
4. Scan your HDD for viruses with an Anti-Virus program
5. cd to "C:/WINDOWS/system32" and watch the contents of it for a little, important stuff is in there
6. Insert "regedit" into the Run dialogue and observe the magic
7. Run "msconfig" and uncheck some of the services/startup programs
8. Defragment your hard drive (my favourite)

Honestly, neither do I know how to solve those problems, mainly because "$program has encountered an error and needs to close" means nothing to me, but I most certainly wouldn't give random advice because I think it may work.

@user ohaz: Doesn't Windows detect and replace modified/deleted core applications?

@user sonnenschein: Actually deleting the file does solve the problem. I have a computer running Windows 7 64bit--when I try to open a huge file (like 3gb) ex. a movie it crashes.

This has never happened on 32 bit though...

You can always start the file from the command prompt.

Out of curiosity, I just tried to delete "explorer.exe", and it didn't work
Deleting vital OS components is a new approach to problem solving.

Nothing related to opening big files in folders. It just crashes randomly whenever I open a folder. Explorer.exe crashes and then it checks online for solution, after that it restarts the explorer.exe like nothing happened. Because of that, the current folder I opened just closed and when I reopened it, by random chance it will either crash again or will not crash.

I don't know which file is causing the crash and I don't really want to delete all the programs I currently have.

when the explorer crashed over and over on one of my windows it was a virus.... u can always try system restore or w/e and go to a date where you did not encounter this problem. that might help?
