Stranded III should primarily be about island survival to the max, I suppose.
No guerrillas, soldiers, or anything with guns.
That's for Stranded II, the easily moddable version.
But, it's looking good so far, DC. Keep up the work.

@user Hurri04: Combining multiple terrain layers would be possible probably but it's also complicated to handle (in the editor as well as in automatic terrain generation). I prefer to keep it simple.
I'll release a download as soon as it makes sense.

@user Lion_Hearted: Of course I'm aware of this possibility but the resulting blocky look will still be there even with complicated smoothing attempts. Also I'm not trying to clone Minecraft here and digging and caves are not an essential feature for a survival game.
And about the suggestion not to render everything at once: I'm programming games for over 10 years now. You really don't have to tell me the totally obvious noob stuff...

My current plan is to have cave models at the top of the terrain as "portal" to an underground section which consists of models (and therefore allows all types of terrain shapes). This method splits overground and underground for best performance.

so you are going for a bethesda cell system?
you really should... would make the buildings much better (interior cell would look better inside and outside, and you could drop your things inside a tent/house with no worries of despawning, as it's your home (unless it inflames some how) and animals wont clip through the building so awkwardly...

and would make the cave system, dimentions, and good houses possible.

I've re-downloaded Stranded II last week because I felt like playing it again. Surfing on the Interwebz yesterday, I found this Dev Blog (didn't know that you're working on SIII, before).

After making a backflip because of exitement (and putting my arm back in place afterwards) I decided to register here to keep up to date.

Looks great, I'm sure the game is gonna be awesome. Can't wait to see more

Far Cry 3 reminds me of Stranded 3.

When user DC will be tired of making Stranded 3, he will just buy and rename Far Cry 3 to Stranded 3 and he will sell it in 2 times bigger price than Far Cry 3 is, like in most Dandy famicom cartridges in 90's, I think.

I played through Far Cry 3 (just to do some market research of course) and it's a pretty nice game in my opinion. I love the idea that you can improve your bag capacity and other stuff with animal skins. The same will be possible in Stranded III for sure
That takedown stuff is fancy as well...

Far Cry 3 is still a shooter without any real survival elements at all. Stranded III will have much more survival and RPG elements - obviously.

Meh, running trough whole map for 1 skin type?
I would like to see more plants, trees and these things than Stranded 2 had (yes, I played FC3 too).
Will you also add quests? I hope you will.

Something like character stats? I mean strength, stamina upgrading etc...

DC, Is there any chance you would make stranded 3 a browser game? i know unity is capable of doing that.

Your probably not but why not ask?

@user -tony316-: No, this would be a totally unrealistic aim. SIII will never reach such a good visual quality. Far Cry 3 is a state of the art commercial triple A title. A group of very experienced professionals worked long and hard to make these graphics possible.

@user Nem: I'm not sure. There will probably be skills again which improve certain actions. Maybe there will be more general stats that improve the health and other stuff as well. I also planned to make armors and clothing and stuff that you can craft yourself and wear. I'll post more about this in the dev blog as soon as I'm sure how I'll do it.

@user Z-: I don't plan to make a browser version. Unity doesn't allow DLLs in browser versions for security reasons but I need those for Lua scripting and most of the in-game stuff will be scripted. No Lua, no game.
