I do not think I will add another knife as there is no use for them all...and re-scripting every combo and adding a ton of new combos don't seem to be worth the effort just to add another knife that would do the same thing as the current knife.

Well, first and foremost, don't get burnt, please just write it down somewhere in the to do list. I would say it is not a waste of time. As always, (A) short of introducing new animals (which I believe you mentioned would add pressure to performance), plants (probably your best bet, think about it), minerals, and other VERY advanced buildings/tools (unrealistic for now), etc., the next best thing is (B) tweaking current items, processes, etc. to make it all more realistic (think plants again, wink).

HOWEVER, the weapons/tool line requires both.

A knife is a very important survival tool. Not everyone, in fact I would bet most people, like 99%+, would not be able to make one in the wilderness, short of being lucky and finding a good flint.

I would suggest we use our current flint as our new stone knife. And a flint can be made by striking stone vs. crystal, (first hit decides whether flint or dust [low chance of flint], if flint stricken it produces dust), wink.

Our current knife can become our iron one. (small handle+iron knife blade+cord OR vine+ [hammer+stone as tools]).

Unlike a hammer, which even other animals know how to use, a knife is a fundamental step up, and the key (together with hammer, etc) for more advanced tools/weapons, i.e., handles and those simple sharpened stick, what you call them?, arrows and spears, wink, wink.

You could introduce "new" quartz (blue crystals), or make it that you gotta make it from current crystals and just change the name to quartz or something more real. And once again I am going on a tangent here, add more, i.e., red (rubies).

Making a stone knife the first week should be as frustrating, IF NOT "WAYYY" MORE, than making fire with sticks/barks. Moreover, the stone knife should be used for emergencies only or strategically for building key tools/weapons, BECAUSE every use carries a HIGH likelihood of breakage. So (as with getting a map of the island on day 1) no more going Rambo from hour 1 after getting "1 stone and 1 branch" (Cmmmm).

Then, you could get an iron knife, that you can mount on a handle, hold in place by force (with a hammer) and with some cords or vines; and later sharpen with a (current) flint. Same with bronze (if introduced), and later steel, etc. Each level adding to the durability (lower chance of breaking) of the tool as well as the effectiveness (damage).

Tedious? Yes! I know it might sound like a lot of work for little gain. But, in my opinion, those little things, specially during the first week, are the meat of the game, i.e., another, for example, is surveying.

Questions:

1. Did I miss the update on sheep? My sheep did not produce anything during spring, even after I got a couple of them in a pen from day 10.

2. How can I avoid getting the black background when I minimize the game?

• New Update Posted 07-15-14

Below are the changes as it is a short list so I post it here from the Page 1 change log. The reason for this is a few changes are MAJOR changes. The maps are now very much larger and the skill levels have been reworked.

√Long awaited by me, I finally got another stranded member to enlarge the maps for each size. Even the small map is quit large, and the large map is huge. Thank you Ominus member!(complete)
√You now get "skill-ups" for most everything you do relating to any one skill. You get a message verifying you got a skill point for something you did.(complete)
√Skill levels have been reset. Every skill has 6 levels. They all level at the following:75/150/250/350/500.(complete)
√When fixing the forge skillup exploit last update, I actually did not fix it. Fixed as intended, no more random skillups moving iron/steel items around. (complete)
√ Apparently the new fish attractor was not added last update correctly. Fixed!(complete)
√ The wooden grill was modified like the forge, re-arranged the placement of items for better cooking experience. Picking up cookies will be easy now.(complete)
√ Missed adding prospecting clay and crystal to the shovel descriptions. It still works in the update, only you didn't get a message, but you CAN find it with the STEEL shovel. Fixed, now added to the shovel descriptions/commands.(complete)
√ Addressed the forge again. Re-worked to make forging easier. Sprinkle dust without a struggle now as there is much more room to work it.(complete)

Download from the top of page 1 or any of my signatures in my posts. Looking forward to feedback, please level past level 3 in all skill before judgments. This aspect may need to be shortened or extended, depending on how fast players skill up now with the new system.

p.s. I see you guys posts, as always, thank you for your feedback and ideas. If I do not reply do not take it personal, sometimes I have to think about things for a while before commenting. I usually get around to it, or I use your post as a reference in the future in some way.

Krypt,
Hi, welcome to the thread. Glad your enjoying the mod. Check out the in game Diary-Crafting/ Operations/ Information. There is a ton of stuff in this mod. It takes a longtime to experience everything in the game, as you play. I have hundreds of entries in the change log for this mod for over a year and a half now, and a ton of additional things added already...and yes...more to come!

Quote
john,
Hey, yes, if your computer has trouble running a larger map, playing a smaller map is very helpful in performance. Less trees and graphics, less animals and fish animations...etc.

If you can't play a large map without serious lag I recommend to play the smaller maps. Now the "small" map is still pretty big and challenging.

Quote
Aedow,
I hear what your saying...will consider modifying the knife n such. Would take a ton of script editing and new scripting, as stated. I just don't know yet with such things I have yet to work on to get the game near it's end. The whole player/native relationships I have in mind will be a ton of work it's self. I will keep your post for reference and see, later on.

Sheep are working...the "breeding" is a random chance 2 in 15 per each day on the island. (the change-day script at midnight or sleeping over midnight). That is the chance if you have 2 sheep. (1 in 15 each sheep) If you have 3 sheep together it is increased obviously, cuz you have 3 chances in 15, and so on. The more sheep you have together the better the chance they breed at midnight.

The alt/tab out black screen is not fixable to date. The only thing I know to do is play in "window" mode (if you plan to tab-out often). Click the other "TheSurvavalist.exe-win.bat" file to start your game in a window. Then you can minimize the window (click the top right minimize - do not alt/tab out)when needed, without black-screen.

Myst,
Yes, I can figure something out for informing a player when crops are mature. Currently you should track the days, 7 days for crops and 14 days for trees. Plus you have to add 3 days for any fruit that spawn on fruit baring crops/trees. I usually tend to plant like 2 extra and "test" them out by chopping 1 down when they look ready, and see what it yields.

After-the-fact, I realize the way I scripted the new skills, they ARE completely compatible with the old saves. Only you will "level" up every point you get, until you reach your current "save" skill level. Sorry if you deleted your old save and started over...I do believe it was actually 100% compatible. Sorry!

To All,
You guys enjoy this latest update for a while...I need to take a few days off and play the game for a bit. As usual, I need to play it for a while in order to get a feel for what I need to improve upon and how things are currently. I mostly do not get to really play cuz I am always playing to test scripts or new stuff I added. I just want to play and have fun and see how the game "really" plays.

I will get back to working on it next week or so, but will however post a patch if anyone finds something broken, ofcoarse.

old Resolution

Is there a reason that the resolution slider in graphics options only goes to 1366x768?

I can set it to 1920x1080 in settings.cfg but I'm wondering if this might cause some things to bug out or such.

Thanks

Pamathus...hi.

That is not the correct way to set the resolution, so i do not know if it will cause a problem with your operating system.

If you want to try 1920x1080 here is how.

1)goto the mods/MasiveMod/sys folder.
2)open the file settings.inf (not setting.cfg)
3)change the last two numbers 1366,768 to the resolution you wanted: 1920,1080
4)click File and Save

now start the game and go to the Options Menu and move the slider in the Graphics to 1920x1080

be sure to replace the two numbers in that file...do not add two new numbers or it will not work. The game can only take 5 resolution settings TOTAL.

hi Ob,

my system can handle the new large map with the default settings I had set when you downloaded the mod. All the sliders in the middle, and far viewing set all the way to the right (high)...all boxes unchecked.

Anything above that my system will start to get a bit laggy, unless I keep the resolution at 1024x768.

either go to Options/Graphics and turn down the graphics sliders(mainly water detail and graphic detail to medium)...or keep the resolution at 1024x768, or play a smaller MAP. This new update has huge maps...the small map is even pretty large.

or do all of the above? Vista and Windows 8 seems to hate this engine, or your type graphics card does. I heard some cards/drivers hate it too. But doing the above should help.

P.S. on the main stranded 2 website there is a Vista/Windows8 patch that might help you. I dont know cuz I didnt use it in my mod. Stranded 2

P.P.S The only other thing that might help is do maintenance on your computer. Defrag your drive, and definitely turn off STARTUP PROGRAMS that start when your computer starts. If you have crap running in the background it will likely be the issue...especially antivirus programs. Disable everything in the list and restart your computer...then run the mod.

old Patch to fix continuous running speed Speed

JasJack67
Super User Off Offline

Quote
Edit:
Here is a patch for continuous running. It fixes a bug when running and your speed is suddenly diminished. Where the script that checks your rucksack "weight" to adjust your speed, is over-riding your current running speed, reducing it.
FIXED

tiny file fast download 11kb
REMOVED
RunWalk_Patch -added to the current update

1) Download, unzip, and open the folder.
2) Copy the 1 file inside the folder into the mods/MassiveMod/sys folder.
3) Click File in the top left and Save.
4) Choose Replace/Overwrite/copy over the file.
5) Close all windows.

Quote
hi Myst,
Hey thanks, I was just re-scripting the weight check script. When it checks to get your carry weight, it is adjusting your speed. So I am scripting it to also check if you are running or not too, so then it will set your speed correctly. Right now it is simply over-riding your running speed and setting it to the weight check speed. My bad!

I already have the script figured out, it's just writing it is taking some time, but I have to run out to work now and will post a patch tomorrow.

very nice find! thanks for posting it!

old Skill_ups Patch - extra skillups

JasJack67
Super User Off Offline

Quote
Here is a patch for skillups for a few more things that were not included in the update. After test playing I felt it needed a bit of balance and gain in a couple of areas listed below. This patch is NOT in the current update yet.

tiny file fast download 58kb
REMOVED
Skill_ups_Patch -added to the current update

1) Download, unzip, and open the folder.
2) Copy the 6 files & 1 folder inside, to the mods/MassiveMod/sys folder.
3) Choose Replace/Overwrite/copy over the file.
4) Click File in the top left and Save.
5) Close all windows.

-------

This patch gives skill ups for the following:
1)When iron turns red in the forge +1 Forging for each iron. Also an indicator when your ore is red hot and ready. You'll see the +1 skill messages.
2)When hitting trees random +1 Lumber just like hitting rock for +1 Mining.
3)Every time you clean out the Kiln to re-use +10 Pottery. Is a bonus skillup for hardening pottery.
4)When making a Hollow Water Rock +1 Mining upon completion.
5)When hitting any rock, +1 Mining was increased a touch.

also a bug fix: when crafting 10 clay bottles you see +10 Pottery ten times, fixed so it is only shown once as intended.

hi moden, thanks for the input!
maybe I could make a combo liver+fryingpan+fire=FRIED LIVER
would also probably need to cut it up liver+knife=LIVER PIECES

To all,
be sure to check out the To-Do list at the top of page 1. A few major and important changes/additions coming in the next update. Will likely be posted sometime tomorrow.

I never figured out how your supposed to make a bottle out of a liver anyway that should be the stomach would be good to have them both. Sure would hate to not be able to make a bottle as soon as you kill a turtle. Speaking of which while I appreciate the extra skin how do you get a skin from a turtle? It should be a shell that you could use for cooking (fragile) or a bowl/Bucket.

it is funny for you to mention the turtle skin. I was asking myself the last couple i killed if I meant to assign some other item as it's loot, and if the skin was a mistake.

i like the idea of the turtle shell, infact have had the same thought. I just did not want to go that route...a bowl...cuz then we'd need a plate, then we'd need a fork and spoon etc...

I would rather make other items/ideas and stay away from making the player use utensils and stuff to cook and eat. Now that I have posted this I guess I could swing a quick menu of salads and require a turtle shell bowl in it's combination.

The liver you click on it in your rucksack and then click the USE button next to the EAT button...to make it a "waterkskin"...which is a bottle added to the collection. I recently thought of changing the liver name to a "bladder". Some of these things come from the old massive mod, they were not my original ideas. The worst thing about stranded and this mod is the ID for everything is only a number...instead of a "name". Where if I want to change 1 thing I have to pour through hundreds of script and find a single number to edit...and if I miss 1 somewhere it breaks everything. The numbers are deeply woven into many scripts and its hard work sometimes. That is why I get alot of "silly" bug errors in my opinion.

anyways...yeah...sounds like a plan, turtle bowl, salads and bladder!

You will realise 'skins' does not come anywhere, nor livers.
Skins can be used though from my experience in my wilderness training - must be treated.

Actually, u can also cook it whole - its not very large.
Think of it as a liver steak!

U can even make it into Foie gras of sort... just not sure if turtle liver or chicken liver or liver of any sorta justify a substitution for goose....
