old Enhanced knife system

EDIT: The "short wooden handle" for the flint knife will be simply a branch. As you will not have a knife to make the handles from a log...to make the knife.

The flint knife will do things slowly.
The iron knife will do things faster.
The steel knife will do thing quickly.

Also "all" flint will break much more often next update. The hammer will remain a branch+stone I do not plan to modify that currently. I will make sure there is a few flint laying around the island, you will just have to find it.

I have made a discovery today that should indeed increase performance for many of you. Reduction in lag specifically. I ran some tests with a script I made to count units and display the numbers onscreen so I could see this information. Well...I found on my current game I had approx 329 bass, 335 piranha,370 sunfish, 279 purple angel, 26, sharks, and 3 whales. In total its over 1200 fish swimming around and being animated. I believe this is causing slow performance for many.

So...I have made a few scripts that will control the population of fish from now on, and they recognize the size of the map vs the numbers to control. So on average the population will stay below 300 total on the large map. 250 on med, and 200 on small.

This should make a big difference for most of us. I will post a patch ASAP for those who wish to have the fix now, rather then wait for the update. My scripts will check your population when you sleep and make adjustments keeping the fish population under control.

I cannot help but note that there is probably no ratio to this.

Perhaps based on a ratio of per 50 fishes, I wish to propose:
Bass:Pirahna:Sun:Purple:Shark:Whale:Total
12     5     18     12     2     1     50

So based on a large map of 300 proposed, u get
72     30     108     72     12     6     300


It means 1 shark for every 2 whale.
5 pirahnas for every whale.
The rest are based on 1 fillet sun fish (18)
and 12 each for 2 fillets bass and purple.

If hard mode, maybe you can tweak based on 100.
20     13     40     20     6     1     100

Sound more challenging and logical?

On the knife thing, in life, flint knife rarely breaks too.
They do get dull too, which can be sharpened with another flint stone.

I think breaking a flint knife really isnt really realistic.
You may wish to get it "sharpenable" instead.

Having a steel knife, stone knife etc for speed is practical.
Though breaking one is really rare.

And flint stones btw, really comes in a variety of colors fyi.

This update 07-28-14 is extremely important as it has resolution to game lag most players experienced in the past.

I highly recommend you download this update and try it out...it is the smoothest and most optimized version in over a year.

Important Save Information: If you load a old save from a previous version, you will not experience the improvement until you sleep past midnight, at that moment when you awake it will be fixed.

Be sure to review the change log or to-do list on page 1. Making a knife at the start is different along with having to fillet fish before cooking. Prospecting with a shovel has also been modified increasing the chance to find. Even better with a STEEL shovel.

Please give feed back on your experience with this update. I would like to know if you can "feel" the difference from the past "slow performance" versions.

there is no water rock on hard mode, unless you make one like that.

oops! I broke more then I fixed as usual. When I added the new flint knife I broke the flint script and they would not light fire. Fixed and also fixed the sharks and whales death animation. Sorry for my mistakes....please have patients with me...you guys should be used to this by now lol.

You can already mark the map in this mod. After making a map with paper and charcoal...combo the map+charcoal to make a Map Marker. It puts an X where you are standing and a text of your choice.

I'll have the video up later so you can see where it's having trouble.

It also seemed as if i wasn't getting the +1 message when the meat on the grill was done cooking, but when reviewing the video, I noticed it did show up, but only for a split second and was gone again. I did access my inventory right before it finished though, but I didn't notice it the second time I cooked any meat either. I miss the sizzle, however laggy it might have been.

yes Myst, I broke the 07-26 update. Right before I uploaded it to mediafire, I stuck a timer on the sharks/whales so they would not sit and spin in a circle. I discovered later that the script had an error causing a lag spike every 3 and 7 seconds.

so yeah...another upload I messed up. I can only say sorry. I know it gets annoying to re-upload, especially those who have a slower net connection. I am very sorry.

The current upload 07-28 seems rock solid, I have been testing and fixing as above posts reveals.

edit: After reviewing the vid, yeah the +1 cooking message when your food's done cooking is only up for a split second before disappearing. Does the new update fix that? I'd still rather the sizzle, myself.

Yeah that lag was the broken script i mentioned above. Sorry about that. Let me know if this 07-28 is better, should be extremely better...if not awsome!

A side note...once you make a map you can toggle the map using your M key. Should already be set to M in options. This will free up setting a number key for another item.

And just a reminder... you can turn off tips hitting the T key.

edit: Im curious too...why do you not build your shelter "over" the grill and fire? If it rains you fire will stay lit then?

old Flint Patch - Interchangeable Flint/Shard

if you drop this tiny file in your /sys folder it will allow lighting a fire with 1 Flint if you have FLINT SHARD in your rucksack. Also the opposite...you can light the fire with 1 Flint Shard if you have any FLINT in your rucksack.

Without this patch you will always need 2 Flint OR 2 Flint Shard...this patch makes them inter-changeable together as it should be in reality.

1 tiny file inside a folder. unzip, copy the 1 FILE into /sys folder.

I added this to the latest Update 07-28 as of this post...only 13 people got the update with out this patch. So if you downloaded the update before this post you need the patch if you want interchangeable flints.

Download this tiny folder of 2 files.

1)Unzip the folder.
2)Copy/paste the 2 files into the mods/MassiveMod/sys folder.
3)Choose copy over/replace.
4)Enjoy!

I will try to mod a lazy wpn to test out all the features of lags and all once exams are over. I have it in my notes somewhere.

I noticed also the end game and prob the mine is unresolved. U not bringing back rite?

Also noticed that you did not mention if the fishes' formula was considered and adopted?? How does the fish ratios work now?

I am not sure about the mine yet, I do not think it will be back in this mod...just not definite yet. However, if you remember the old Cooking Pot? I may bring that back soon.

Next update or so the skills will peak at 1000 instead of 500. At peak each will unlock new items/buildings...for cooking skill I decided on the old Cooking Pot from Massive Mod that is broken and I took it out, plus an Iron Grill that will hold 12 pieces of food vs 10 max currently on the wooden grill. Other skills will bring more too, but the skills will peak at 1000 skill each then. Except for "survivor" skill (days survived) I don't know yet what it will peak at.

The fish fillet combo is currently active yes...once you cook and eat the old "Whole Fishes" they will be gone for good from your current game.

Rainbow=2 Lg.Fillet
Bass=2 Sm.Fillet
Angel=2 Sm.Fillet
Sunfish=1 Sm.Fillet
Piranha=1 Sm.Fillet & 2 Teeth
