Hi,

there is "Survival Week" on Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/tag/survival-week/

They decided to focus on survival games, and there are articles about games like DayZ or NeoScavenger. There is a huge market for survival games. In comments section, you can read about some older games that according to some started this trend, like Minecraft. Somebody even metioned Robinson's Requiem. Unfortunately, Stranded 2 remains relatively unknown game.

I think Stranded 2 get ahead of it's time. Until today, there is no other game so well designed, mod-friendly, with both story and sandbox modes, and most importantly, about survival, not about building or fighing zombies. Most of survival games are not even finished... If a game like Stranded 2 had been released today or half a year ago, it would be an instant commercial success. Avaliable games on Steam with tags like "open world surival" usually are just bare bones crafting/looting mechanisms, forever in Early Access. And sometimes graphics is not much better than old Stranded 2, take a look for example at "Salt". (Salt almost looks like Strandes 2 mod).

Good luck, DC, I'm going now to play moded Skyrim and keep waiting for true survival experience.

My only concern about S3 is that it'll be either out of trend (people will play other genres at the time because they will have had enough survivals from 2014-2015) or "too realistic" compared to modern casual/f2p/shooter games where you don't need to think at all: just keep firing your magazine 'till it's empty.
Stranded 3 have to be totally different (and it already is, just think of that forever-alone-stranded-human-being setup) with many things to explore yet have a good learning curve so you can at least survive for a few days without the need to look up something (sadly, I wasn't able to do that in S2)

I struggled in SII for a bit, but after finishing the story mode, I could plow through endless mode with such ease!
SII was a more... casual approach to the survival genre. There was no "OMG CANNIBALS!! Let me construct a heavy machine gun with 4 iron rods!!" It was a basic concept: simply survive, and have fun.
Unlike most survival games today, where the mood is gloomy and serious, SII was comical. Very bright and cartoony, an appropriate feel to a casual game.
Stranded III may be unique in these aspects: a simple approach to survive, and the colorful graphics. I don't know, but that's how it seems from the one screenshot displaying depth of field.

You're missing the point between games. Survival can mean that it's a shoot-em-up where the only concern is your health and ammo and it can also mean surviving in the wild, like in Stranded 2. In no way should you compare these as equal game genres as they're fundamentally different and do not relate to one another, although both are indeed survival games.
