What I've seen more and more lately is that moderators (especially useigor) answer to posts in the mod comment (see this). I don't think that's what the mod comment field should be used for. When mods want to post an answer to something, they should use the normal reply way to do so, not abuse the mod comments.

@ useigor: Stop doing that or I'll be forced to ask Leiche or DC to give me my mod powers back and take them away from you

Leiche is closing threads like real men do.

You could use it is when you tell someone what they did wrong and you believe they didn't know any better and they didn't want to be malicious/stupid.

Example: "Try to look over your post before sending it, because your grammar is horrifying, and these run-on sentences make me puke Leiche! /Leiche"

I believe that's the reason why those comments can be written manually, and I've often used these in that context. I've never received a single complaint from anyone.
