This. And when you give suggestions it feels like they all take it like an insult and start bashing on everything. You can't improve PCS when all they want to do is "go back to the old days." - That's never going to happen.

We're always open to suggestions. And many improvements to CS2D have come from PCS, say, for example, lag compensation (yeah now you'll say lag comp is not an improvement? It makes it fair for everyone to play amongst each other and makes it possible to unite EU and AM players. It didn't come from PCS? Yes, it was initially scripted by FlooD in Lua and supported and tested by many 'competitive' players from PCS).

I'm not a PCS hardcore fanboy but I just don't like when people generalize because they had one bad experience before. If you've suggested anything and feel like you were not heard or that we took it as an insult then I invite you to make those suggestions again, publicly or in a private message, I'll receive it and we can kindly discuss anything you propose.

Yes, PCS has had and still has a lot of kids and trash talking and all the shitstorm even US has but, again, like US, it has serious people that spend their free time to improve this little game so don't disrespect that.

• Start a global thread for default CS2D settings for each mode and stick by them
• Get a ranking system instead of relying on open tools on the web or paint
• Start hosting other servers instead of sticking with default
• Stop hosting closed (password required) servers for matches and filling up the server list
• Stop hosting open servers and kicking people when there is a "closed match" going on (like seriously what the actual fuck)
• Remove your whole admin team and strip ranks because 90% of them don't understand how to manage a community
• Global server rank page across all servers (even different modes)
• Get a better website with decent forum software to award people on the forums based on server rank - no one likes manual labor
• Use a global administration system across the servers - not the same script, one script which shares the same files so it's all in sync

> Get rid of the name PCS

Thanks for the suggestions.
Let me go point by point so we can discuss everything.
Quote:
• Start a global thread for default CS2D settings for each mode and stick by them

I'm not sure if that was done in the past since I have been inactive the last few years. But what specific settings do you mean?
Quote:
• Get a ranking system instead of relying on open tools on the web or paint

For ranking clans and organizing tournaments you mean? Yeah I should code something web-based or search around, there's probably free stuff somewhere. How would you make it if you had to?
Quote:
• Start hosting other servers instead of sticking with default

Yeah, that's not really up to me but I was always a supporter of construction servers. We should host one of those and maybe some laser?
Quote:
• Stop hosting closed (password required) servers for matches and filling up the server list

We currently have three servers in AM and 3 in EU. 1 regular public server and 1 mix/match one which is password required for hosting matches, I don't see why that's bad. 3rd one is for tournament matches in case mix/match sv is already being used.
Quote:
• Stop hosting open servers and kicking people when there is a "closed match" going on (like seriously what the actual fuck)

If there's a "closed match" happening, of course no other people can play there, but they should be allowed to spectate instead of being kicked. Admin abuse happens sometimes, sadly.
Quote:
• Remove your whole admin team and strip ranks because 90% of them don't understand how to manage a community

You can PM names and abuse situations and I'll do something about it. A complete whipeout and re-admin distribution could be made but it's a bit too much right now maybe (still not against the idea, I agree with you).
Quote:
• Global server rank page across all servers (even different modes)

How so?
Quote:

Yes, we're working on a new site with a news portal and something a bit more elegant. Do you have any forum-software suggestions? We're fine with the current one but if there's a better one, why not?
Quote:

That's so basic, yet it's not implemented, thanks for the heads up. Will do.

Probably you could use a remote database engine to manage the ranking of the players.

I think you should elaborate a little more on some points.

Yeah I meant like what is the idea behind it, putting all default cs2d server ranks into one global one and have that listed on the website?

Don't you guys ever read the server logs? to see if something fishy is going on?

I removed my own quotes because it was getting too large.

Every time an idea to change a default CS2D setting comes from the PCS scene no one realizes that these changes can be made by the server administrators. I'm 100% sure people in the competitive scene want changes which can be done with server settings, but for some reason it always pops up in the CS2D idea thread here instead of on PCS.

People from the competitive scene should stop treating it as "how CS2D is meant to be" but instead try and solve it internally. Community decisions for each community.

user united has written:

Don't use the free stuff. It's a bitch to change and a bitch to manage with your own website. How it would be made depends on what PCS needs. You need to layout the concept before you can start thinking which technology to use.

user united has written:

Yes. Yesyesyesyesyesyesyes. If people don't play - shut them down. But start opening up to more server modes outside of the default scope.

Because they are empty most of the time, that's basically the problem. Create a system to start them at a certain time (you could use a cron job) or have someone do it. Filling the server list with empty servers simply looks bad.

Note: I am only talking about password required servers here.

user united has written:

It is already decided who will be playing, I presume, or an admin is present - let the admin add USGN ID's to a list that is allowed to join a team. This way no one joins a team and gets kicked when they accidentally mistake it for a "normal" server.

user united has written:

The problem isn't the abuse, it's when user A starts posting crap like usual nothing is done because that's just how person A is. The admins and moderators are shit (offense intended) and it looks like none of them care for the forum or simply enjoy the spicy threads and don't care too much about it.

A new user to the community would think it is normal or would rather refrain from coming in contact with it at all.

A page which displays the player ranking across all your servers together. Combine scores and display global ranking.

I personally like XenForo, but it costs money. You can always take the time to develop your own but move away from phpBB. Its support for the current web is so outdated.

@user Starkkz: Please tell me what PCS means without asking or looking it up. I have no idea. The domain name is CS2D.net so why not simply stick with that? (Which is already being done mostly yet for some strange reason it's still called PCS).

Eek, phpBB was outdated a decade ago. XenForo sites usually look great, but I haven't used it personally. If you want a free forum that can import all of your phpBB data, I'd recommend Simple Machines Forum.

We used SMF for Rewards Gaming, and had even integrated our own site within it to manage servers, ranks, player reports, bans, whitelist/blacklist, ect.

This time around I've ditched the forum concept entirely in favor of Discord, and I'll be building the server admin site in Lua via Lapis. But that's got a bit of a learning curve.

Yes i have always thought on things like that and that's one of the reason for havinghave United in the team now.

But no server rank, more like "Cup awards".
Well to have the best public players on forum it would be interesting.

Yeah, first things first. We'll see what we use. Maybe some Discord integration too. We'll see into it.

Yup, I'll push to make this happen.

Couldn't agree more with you here. Problem is there's a looot of other servers that don't really even get used. That's why I suggested @ unrealsoftware's site ideas to have a wider statistics section, were you could see number of players in each server throughout the day (or at least I thought about it...).

user Yates has written:

There's a !lock command for preventing players from joining but sometimes admins don't use it, yeah.

Yeah, we could have mods and moderate the forum a bit to prevent all the shit posting and spam but it would mean to pick AND control the people who'd moderate that and I don't think we're ready for that yet.

user Yates has written:

Oh, now I get it. Well, I think at this point in the game with the current number of players and servers we manage it's a bit pointless, but yeah, it would be a nice feature nonetheless.

You are the only exception towards me. Things would have gone down a lot different if this were to be on CS2D.net - I'm not the only one that feels this way.

All in all, I still appreciate it. Just please get rid of that stupid name first

United, you are so late into discussion so please don't try to use words as generalizing LC indeed was made by FlooD, and initially I was the only guy from Europe to suggest using it on EU servers but I got shitstormed as always by PCS idiots who know better.

Jumping to present:

DC implemented it but allowed it to be tweaked. So here is the problem. Unlike CS:GO interp settings, it is server sided so before using it you have to adjust it to favor the majority of players. Yet, in PCS servers we see "yolo max" so africans and chineese (and andrez) can play normally on EU SERVER and low ping players rage quit because half of their bullets won't count. I tested it so much lol, even DOS'ing your own router is advantageous

And this is a single command, which is neglected for years now because it is too subtle for you guys to notice. There are dozen of other things that can make the game annoying and unplayable. Of course I wouldn't even write this stuff, but it is funny how players like andrez write nonsense that competitive game is not dead and they think that going on steam will change something. Nope, it will only bring lots players who will leave after the 1st try because they get shot through walls
