I assume by file manager you mean a file manager via a website?

You should probably change the poll name by the way.

The majority of the people would prefer using an FTP client. But it's up to you; do you want to regulate the transfer process which can be done better via a web interface or do you want to allow uploading freely with barely any restrictions?

Ask yourself that question, then you have your answer.

user Hajt has written
Gay title. Anyway I prefer both solutions.

A title can't be gay. Anyway, if you know a better one, why just let me know instead of complaining

my title didn't want to be gay and it won't be, just because Hajt and may you think it means to be

Anyway, I would be happy, if we could strict to the point and leave this title thing behind us for once and ever.

I prefer SSH+SSHFS. Barring that, SFTP. But I host my own, so my opinion is bias in that regard.

If it's something public facing, as I'm assuming this is, then it'd be best to provide a custom web panel so you can have more control over what garbage users are trying to upload or modify. They don't need a file manager, or access to raw file edits.

You should also be sure to lock-down the lua environment by having your own launch scripts before anything else. Then you can disable things like the os library, and control what is able to be executed. Otherwise anyone could upload a script that mucks up your VPS.

I remember helping @user MostAfa: set up that stuff back in the day. Fun times.

I like to use SFTP as it is pretty much straight forward in terms of configuration, quite reliable and fast enough.

If I were to access my server files using a web page, I'd like to have a simple explorer with drag n drop mechanics packed with a fairly decent online text editor. A way to easily reach the logs (including the live one) would also be useful).

Could you please elaborate that "best way when you want to access your CS2D server" though? What do you mean with access?

I use SFTP to manage files on my vServer using the WinSCP client. SFTP is more secure than FTP. FTP has no encryption at all and there are many security problems with it. I wouldn't recommend using this outdated protcol these days. I especially wouldn't recommend to START using it now in new environments.

Also for SFTP you would just have to setup a user on the Linux machine and set the right home folder / permissions. For FTP you need to install an FTP server application I guess which is additional overhead and also an additional security risk.

Yes, the results tells me that we will provide (SFTP) Web File Manager and and simply SFTP login as well.

Thank you everyone.
