It most likely didn't and this is another example of an urban legend, but even if it did - probably influence on the brain by the sound, in a way similar to how bright flashes provoke epilepsy or, better yet, how infrasound provokes fear and uneasiness in humans. Also, it's 'Lavender Town'.

It's a pokémon ghost town, but there is one building where the ghosts are haunting which is a high building with loads of "levels." - You have to go all up to the top fighting those old women and loads of pokémon that appear out of no where. When you get at the top it turns out a stupid pokémon with a bone hand (Forgot the name) is stopping you so you either kill it (Disable, make it faint whatever) or catch it. You get through the door find an old man and rescue the poor sod. He gives you a flute to awaken those fat sleepy things along the road and that's about it.
Oh and that "Leave now" thing means you haven't beat the, bad guys boss, whatever they were called and he gives you a magnify glass which you use to see who the pokémon is saying the "Leave now" which would be that bone hand thing.
HOW IS THAT WEIRD? - This was all made to fit the game, the music fits a ghost town, the "Leave now" makes sure you cannot complete that part before you complete another.
Now could we stop this bullshit?

Those myths are on every Pokemon game. I know people who even watch videos looking for ghoul heads in smoke and cry all night about seeing the end of their lives in tealeafs.
If that's how they wanna waste time I don't mind.
