What is the "Pirate Party" you ask?

The Pirate party fights for civil rights and against espionage in the internet, or in other communications. Espionage is a term closely associated with spying. It implies the systematic use of agents or spies to procure information generally about another country's politics or military. It exists in many countries (over 30) and we're happy about every country where the party is started. They have a website going but it is under contruction: http://www.piratepoliticalparty.com/
If you would like to learn more about the pirate party you can look here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_Party_International

You can look to see if your country supports the pirate party. If not you can still individually support it your self. There was no banner for the United States so i made my own. If you would like to support pirate party you can use the picture in my signature or make your own. Thanks for reading and I really hope you join and support the pirate party!

The pirate party is no choice for me, especially because of their opinion about the copyright. The right of a free copy for everyone would cause a stagnation of the software/music/movie and gaming market and ruin a whole a industry.

Sure you could increase the taxes that software producers get still paid, but why should people pay for products they don't use? And how to decide who gets the money? Is there someone who rates the products? According to the number of downloads, which can faked without a problem? Or adding a absolute basic income for musicers / software developers etc. but why should he make good music then, if there is no bonus for making good music, so everyone can say he I am a musican, so he don't have to work anymore.

This party is pretty kewl. Seriously. I simply love Sweden - didn't go there but:
• Basshunter comes from there.
• They don't care about piracy, at least I love The Pirate Bay.

Pirate Bay was illegal and a reason for closing the website. Pirate Party is not for piracy (at least the german party) just for the right to copy your own discs for safety reason. Long time ago the game industry TOLD you to make a backup copy of oyur games. But nowadays adware from the gamesindustry is saved on your pc and can cause serious damage to it. Btw, it doesnt even stop piracy. You can still download Games if you want, and every security is unsafe. That's what pirate party is about. The right of copying your CDs as much as you want, as long as you don't share it illegal. A free copy of every game wouldn't make any sense and wouldn't work, so that is NOT their target.

This is NOT the Pirate bay! I HATE THE PIRATE BAY!

The Pirate Party(Wiki) has written
The Pirate Party of the United States is a political party created on June 6, 2006 and formed on July 4, 2006. The party is not affiliated nor associated with The Pirate Bay.

Please! nothing else about the pirate bay. the pirate bay has nothing to do with the pirate party. The pirate party fights espionage! The Pirate bay is a torrent site!

@Xt3:
Please understand. this is not the pirate bay. we have no affiliation with them! The pirate party is something totally different.

@Vibhor:
Then add the picture in your signature

@Reaper:
Yes i disagree with that one idea. It would lead to a whole effed up world but i still like what they do.

Well, the pirate party was founded because of the pirate bay. Because the pirate bay was sued, some people thought that the copyright law should be abolished. They founded the pirate party, but then they stopped trying to abolish the copyright law, but to loosen it

It is not the opposite of it. But the Pirate Party was at first more a joke than a real party, but it become serious and very popular because it is about a topic nobody cared about before.

Be realistic here, around 80% of exposure that any album will get is from an underground channel rather than officially through a resale source. However, this isn't to say that the pirate party is beneficial. The formality and facade of our current situation at least is incentive enough for musicians and software developers to keep working. Having the pirate party legislate on the internet (which is really under international domain rather then by country, although some powers are delegated to the country level) would rip off this pretense and instead take away motivation for people to keep on practicing their craft.

The basic ideology behind this 'party' is misguided, they're fighting for something that they already have. They just want the recognition of it. Tell me, how many of you here download the album for a preview before actually buying them? Isn't that basically what the whole deal underneath this faction really is?

Like all the others this one should be released unter CC by NC SA. So you are allowed to do anything you want with it, as long as you release it under the same license and don't sell it

Deppends from where they are downloading them. People who still use a filesharing network are in my opinion just stupid. The risk of getting caught is way to high. Most of the music can be heared for free at youtube (mainly offically, (ok no WMG)), myspace or the bands page. And if someone still want download them there are many safe ways.

the technicality of this statement doesn't need to be universal, I'm generalizing over here. Assume that all form of unauthorized use of copyrighted work to be included in the word 'download' in this case.
