Hello community,

>The issue/problem:
I have a problem when starting cs2d. When I start cs2d with DirectX everything looks smooth, but when many people fire their guns or many events/particles are shown it really lags. But when I start cs2d with OpenGL everything runs smooth, but everything looks crappy, I mean players with black squares on their arms, text that is blurry and other malfunctions.
(I have this problem since I have this laptop, but I thought maybe someone knows a solution.)

>What do I think is wrong?
I run cs2d on a notebook with Intel integrated graphics, a GMA 4500mhd integrated chipset. Most other games like "Two Worlds" have a weakness for these chipset series. So maybe it causes a conflict with the relatively easy cs2d engine?

>What solutions did I already tried?
•I have the latest directX 11 and completely updated my drivers via Dell site.
•When I right click on blank field on my desktop and choose "Graphic Properties" then I see a window with "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for mobile" and choose "3D-Settings" it opens a new window with options for OpenGL, everything is on or working in this window...

See screenshot for what I mean when I start cs2d with OpenGL:

Conclusion when I run:

OpenGL
× Everything looks choppy...
√ No lag.

DirectX
√ Everything looks smooth.
× It lags considerably...

P.S: I have tried to search for a solution with the search engine but didn't got what I need. I Also have read the F.A.Q.

I guess there is not much you can do about this. an on-board video card without dedicated memory is no good choice for games in general. this card obviously doesn't run good with the engine of blitzmax/cs2d.

you either have to stick to the messed up opengl graphics or you can try to reduce the detail level in CS2D to get the required FPS with directx:
go to > options > graphics
> disable all shadows (map, player, item)
> particle details: very low
> disable bullets
> disable visible shots (attention: gameplay disadvantage! only do this if really necessary)
> disable tile animations

Indeed, Intel and Dell corporation mostly makes hardware designed for microsoft office applications. It wasn´t really a big issue, but I like cs2d graphics in general, but I think performance is more important than an nice looking screen.

So I'll stick to the OpenGL graphics then, because I tried DirectX with low details and everything on low, except visible shots ofcourse and it still didn´t changed at all.

For anyone with Intel Integrated graphics I suggest choosing OpenGL, because the biggest disadvantage in DirectX is: When you throw a grenade, it explodes earlier then were you clicked. (Especially flashes are hard to throw far away just behind a corner.)

Thank you all for your answers!
