Sometime ago, I was working on 2D engine concept, which was pretty successful.
Therefore, last month I thought about the idea to implement some of those 2D features into CS2D Max.
So yeah, the result was pretty worth, so I worked even further.

Thus, shadows & lights aren't the only features I've planned in this project.
For example: fog, texture bumping, grass and more visual tricky stuff.

The tool has already reached 9th Pre-Alpha version, so the next version is in Alpha.
First versions used Lua scripting, but not anymore, now it's fully based on comfortable editor's interface.
It has been released in few my language forums for testing, but not in public yet.

• By the way, special thanks belongs to Roni for helping me with this tool design and giving several ideas.

Current features would be:
∗ Loading CS2D .map format (that makes easier to work with layers)
∗ Generating shadow, light layers and viewing them through same tool
∗ Accurate light physics
∗ Bloom/opposite effect
∗ Lights can use RGB colors & different radius
∗ Soft shadow edges
∗ Compressed .png layers exporting
∗ There are plenty of customizable options, so there are many ways to make a different look for lights & shadows

That's it, enjoy the news and I hope you'll give some feedback.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

At the moment, this tool generates two layers - Shadows & Lights.
After exporting it as images (compressed - PNG format), you're applying them though CS2D map editor.

• Light layer uses Light Blend Mode and 30% Transparency.
• Shadow layer uses Shade Blend Mode.
• Shadow layer should be applied over Light layer.

So, generated and exported layers looks like that:
Shadow Layer

Light Layer

These two layers has only 84kb size.

looks great, nice work.

just for the people who want me to implement this: there's a problem with this technique: it's static and probably too slow (at least on weaker systems) to update it while playing. this means that it would look odd on maps with dynamic walls (or in construction mode) because the lights/shadows would not change after building a wall or opening/closing a door (or the game would lag in these cases because updating light/shadows takes too long).

Awesome job,

Thought, it should be stand alone, due to the stuff DC said.
Also, it should co-work with CS2D, construction walls should have shadow and stuff, this would be really great, but needs Both DCs and Your skills to develop.

Its for standard maps without doors.

@The Camo,
If you slice the layer in some parts for example, there is an idea to change certain part of layer using triggers.
So it's possible to do so with doors.

Admir has written
Is this CS2D addons or officially will be added to CS2D?

It's a tool, just to improve certain map graphics.

For those who don't get it: this is a tool just likeVaiN's Tileset Creator. It's standalone.

If I'm not wrong, you create thae map than export it to this tool and save with lights and shadows, right?
