Sony's worldwide PSN restoration begins with a U.S. rollout on Saturday, Canada on Sunday, and other countries to follow.

What was nearly a full month of downtime mixed with anguish, anger, and just a pinch of hysteria is finally coming to the end... or the first phase of an end, anyway. As first announced on the official PlayStation Blog, Sony Computer Entertainment is rolling out the restart of PlayStation Network across the country, which began in the early evening Pacific Time.

The announcement comes alongside a video from SCE president Kaz Hirai, who again offers his apologies to everyone affected by the downtime/hacker attack, and details the make-good plans the company is launching for members. On top of that, PS3 owners must download and install a new firmware update for the system, which will prompt PSN users to change their passwords before fully logging back in, and can only be changed on the same system the PSN account was activated, or via email confirmation. The PlayStation Store service is not yet up, with the assumption that Sony still plans to get that up and running after getting the rest of the network up.

The map viewable in the PS Blog post is only for the U.S., though the European blog has the same announcement.

Well, then... anyone up for some Portal 2 co-op? or even Borderlands co-op?

That's good news, now PS3 users can play online again and hopefully without further interuptions. Welcome back PSN, lol.

I am an Xbox fan and I hate Sony for DaX and Geohot, but users mustn't suffer because the company is filled with douchebags. I am happy actually, most of my friends are on PS3.

Yup, anyone that was affected by this (stollen credit card) then Sony is offering 2 free games. I know for sure that one of them is the new Mortal Kombat, but I'm not sure what the other one is (can't link to any other site at the moment cause my school's firewall blocks 90% of all the sites)

Here's whats on offer. Two PlayStation 3 games from the following list:

* LittleBigPlanet
* Infamous
* Wipeout HD/Fury
* Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty (Europe only)
* Dead Nation
* Super Stardust HD (North America/Germany only)

And two PSP games from the following list:

* LittleBigPlanet PSP
* ModNation Racers PSP
* Pursuit Force
* Killzone Liberation

That list is a bit different for PSN users in Germany, which swaps Dead Nation and Infamous for the less violent Super Stardust HD and Hustle Kings on the PS3. German PSP owners will get Everybody's Golf 2 and Buzz Junior Jungle Party instead of Pursuit Force and Killzone Liberation on the PSP.

Damn, i live in germany.

I was going to suggest creating another account in a different region but it has to be active before 20th April.

Not sure where you've gotten that information from. Both Kotaku AND the European PSN Blog have stated that the only free games are the ones Don-Toblerone stated in his last post.

Maybe it's one of them free special offers that are given at a limited quantity within a specific time, which demands the viewer to act within a certain deadline to claim this "reward" or what it is, free stuff simply. I've seen some of those before, but without a clear advert which can evidently provide us with proof in this matter I have to doubt it. I also somehow find it highly unlikely that Mortal Kombat was one of the freebies. Rumours... they never get old.

The games they've given out are either cheap or old, in fact, I already have inFAMOUS, LittleBigPlanet and Wipeout HD.

Yea, PSN tries to screw the customer lol. But yet again, it's only free stuff... what more can one ask for. I'm interested in that Wipeout HD btw, I'm a big fan of the Wipeout-series from PSX(PS One) simply, so yeah, Wipeout HD is the champ with the major graphics imo.

Simply have a look at the game.

It's better than nothing. Sony could go ahead, pull the middle finger and tell us to "fuck off!".

Even then, they're only doing this to gain the trust back of PSN users. Personally, I won't be putting my details on any Sony products again, I'll just be sticking to PSN wallet cards.

MediaGo cannot open the damn store.
I'm lost.

The Playstation Store isn't available for some Countries still. I'm in the United Kingdom and I cannot go onto it without getting "Store is under maintenance" error message.

The PSN Store will still be under maintenance yet. It isn't up in Canada or US. I'm sure once its up though, people will be mass downloading the free stuff in a heartbeat... cause I know that I'm going to be one of them. Hello Infamous and Dead Nation, and Killzone.

Also, Mortal Kombat is for people that were greatly affected by the hack (the people that lost $1000+) which seems to be only a handful of people so far. That's just what I've been told so far.

PSN got hacked again. The hackers found a security hole in the "change password @ first login" function.

Sony says they've "patched it", but I can bet that another exploit will be found.

They need to add every security gate they have in order to prevent this type of massive hacking that is going on and to ensure that PSN doesn't get even more problems. I mean, it can't be just one single hacker that does this. It must've been some kind of greater force.
