So, exactly as the title asks - It's a question asking you guys what you think about the default CS2D sprites since I've been getting some stars docked off of my first weapon skin due to it's "small size", even if it follows the rough guidelines of the default M4A1 skin in terms of size (Not that I'm complaining, I just want to know what you guys think)

Answer 1: Nope, they're fine.
(Meaning, use the sizes of the original skins as a guideline to create other skins and mods)

Answer 2: Size variation is alright.
(Perhaps the default sprites are a little small, but by no means are they needed to be changed. Skin mods can be slightly bigger in size without ruining skin cohesion in terms of looks in size)

Answer 3: Needs to be a lot bigger. Fix it please!
(The default weapon skins are smaller than they should be, and as such they most likely need to be replaced with bigger, more detailed weapon buy skins)

CS2D default sprite size example: http://www.unrealsoftware.de/files_show.php?file=7019
CS2D proposed size as suggested by others: http://www.unrealsoftware.de/files_show.php?file=7017

As a final note, smaller skins and sprites aren't necessarily worse off, and neither are larger than average sprites.
This poll and thread is meant to be a discussion about what size a skin/sprite a rifle (in this case as an example) should be, as voted by the community. I'm not interested in who's better at skinning - I'm only interested in what you guys think about what size a skin should normally be.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you contribute to this thread.

First of all, what do you mean by "Proposed sized"? & why did you use my skin as an example?
No idea why you chose mine, since it doesn't take up all of the space that CS:2D allows. So that's a good size.

Besides, it's alot easier to make smaller weapon skins. Hate to boast about it, but your gun doesn't have half of the shading and details I put into my weapons. I can see that you've used a few colours, probably 5 more or less. Anyway, that's way easier then what most designers have done.

It would take most people, including me, about 5 to make a smaller gun, with full detail.

EDIT: I didn't mean this for you to get pissed off, just stating the fact

First off, proposed size is what I've seen many skins' sizes in the CS2D file archive, and I used your skin as an example as to what larger than default size is, even if it may not take up all of the space, it's still larger than the default sizes of the skins that come with CS2D

Well different spriters have different opinions about what is harder to sprite - I just find it easier to sprite in larger areas because I've got more pixels to work with. Restricting myself to a smaller amount of pixels doesn't necessarily mean that the sprite will end up with less colours, even if the detail won't be as in-depth as a larger sprite.

That's okay, we all have preferences and such, but I'll have to agree to disagree with you when it comes to your fact about larger sprites being harder to sprite.
It really depends on the subject matter, and the more sacrifices you can manage to achieve whilst spriting something, the more efficient the artist's spriting is due to the fact that not only does the artist has to create a sprite in a smaller area, he has to make do with the fact that he can't add as much detail as prefered, and so, he must make it obvious enough that, say, a white pixel on a gun's body is a bolt. It's all about causing other people to see the artist's perception in a smaller image.
It's like looking at a blurry photo making out the feature's of a person's face - There needs to be enough detail to show what content it is, but not too much that it overloads the subject matter with noise.
Yes I know, tl;dr but that's how minimalism, and spriting works too.

That's fine man, that's correct about the different variety of sizes. I'm only talking about CS:2D though, not anything else. If i go and make a default-sized weapon, everyone's going to complain about how small it is & it's lack of detail.

I don't know if it's because most of the noobs on here hate me, or because they got raped when they were a kid. Probably lost a few braincells because of that.. .

Well, it's personal rpeference really. But what pisses me off is how people say "Hey, bigger sprites are easier" or "The smaller the better." This isn't about difficulty, it's more about looks. It can be a small sprite but still look epic, I won't downrate for that. It might be big-assed, simple but awesome, still, I won't downrate.Personally though, I prefer medium-sized skins that don't take too little or too much space. 100 x 20 or so is fine with me.

What really needs to change is how people rate the sprites, not the size. I've been seeing "Too big, so 3/5 for you." Now that is plain annoying.
