It is well known that explosions and fire can be very hard to render. I myself think that with my crappy laptop (weak intel gpu) this strain prevents me from playing optimally.

When there's nothing moving on my screen and I don't have any other applications with much resource usage running, I have 48 or 49 FPS. Never higher than 49 though. When there's some bullets flying around, this will drop a few frames to about 45. That is with pretty much all graphical options set to a minimum (no gore, very low particle details, etc.)

With 45 FPS, I'm still quite able to play. Yet when a molotov cocktail comes flying in, my FPS drops to below 30. In fact, it is often the case that I am killed by a molotov before I can even see the thing flying (flying really slowly, that is; it flies at about half the speed it would fly at a reasonable desktop). I wouldn't be surprised if this low FPS causes molotov cocktails to explode at different places with different people (as is the case with many other nades; HE grenades for instance travel different at my laptop than on the server). Actually, I'm sure of this, for people frequently don't die when, on my screen, a molotov explodes right in their face, whereas I do die when a molotov explodes at three tiles from my position (again, that is what I see).

So I was wondering if there is a way to somehow reduce the graphical strain caused by these molotov cocktails and, if this is not possible at this moment, if a future version of the game can be supplied with a 'low graphics' option. Of course you can say that I should buy a desktop, but I have to get a new laptop next year and I'm not willing to buy a new computer every year.

Hey there, added to todo list.

I'll tweak the grenade/molotow movement speed so it moves accordingly to the fps and I'll also see if I can reduce the fire detail level for low particle settings.

I don't get how the computer lags cause of molotov cocktails. My computer is pretty much the oldest here, but CS2D works fine. Maybe join servers with higher ping.

join servers with higher ping?! that's never a good idea. lol.
and it's quite normal that it lags when there are many effects (flames in case of molotow).

seems like your PC is not the oldest or at least not the one with the weakest GPU (on board intel stuff can be incredibly slow crap)

1. I mean better ping.. dude I always write such things wrong.

2. I've checked my videocard ones; Intel Inside 3.

You probably have a desktop computer. Processors are always slower on laptops, even when they have the same name as the ones in a desktop. A brand new high-end notebook with the best mobile quadcore processor is about as fast as a poor two-year old desktop.

My 2008 laptop is a lot faster than my old 2001 desktop (with no special video card, again a crappy intel gpu) with everyday tasks, but graphically it's absolute crap:

Any new computers these days should be fully capable to run cs2d lolol--still at times when there are many effects it will lag. It's not the fault of the developer but however the engine the game is running off of.
