So, before I do anything, I'll give you the specs of the computer I'm running;

2.8ghz Pentium D
3gb DDR2 RAM (3 sticks) @ 667mhz
nVidia geForce 8500 gt w/ 512mb Video RAM
100gb SATA @ around 22MB/s

(That's all that I think is relevant)

On a 1280x1080 resolution, I am unable to record anything with a decently quality and framerate, or even a sub-decent quality and framerate. I've tried several solutions such as Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder, FRAPS (Demo), and Bandicam. They all seem to produce the same results: Laggy footage of a laggy computer environment because of the recording. Before you blaming it on my harddisk, whatever recording software, combined with whatever is running (I've tried it when nothing is running, just the desktop, and it still was jumpy) is using 100% of my processor's attention, which is still not enough. I've seen people, on old threads (Not here) talking about running things like WoW whilst recording with a good quality on old computers w/ 1gb of RAM and a 2.6ghz processor. This leads me to believe one thing:

I'madoinitwrong.

So, any suggestions, or is it really my PC after all?

(Sorry about the former content. It's kinda late.)

Try running the game in window mode.

I've tried to go down to 800x600, it's still horribly laggy. The best I got was at around 500x400, and that's pathetic, especially when there's nothing running. If I'm not mistaken, my computer should be able to handle 1280x1080 windows system.

Hmmm try to meddle around with the settings you are using for your screen capture software. If your using fraps then there are plenty of custom settings in youtube. Look it up.

a 2.6ghz i7 whatever is like over 9000x faster than that pentium D lolol

22mb/s my flash drive is faster rofl

Flash drivers are USB, and the newer USBs are pretty damn fast.

An i7 has 4 cores, a Pentium D has 2. The Pentium D's had a somewhat inefficient dye so 3x faster at the most.

But you haven't provided any insight into what the problem might be. Thanks for your post...

Ok i think i know where is the switch. Is your pc 1 core or double core.

If 1 core than there is no way you can make it stop lagg.

I got 2 core 2.4 ghz pc and its more than enought i can record gta 4 on high graphic settings with 25fps which is more than enought for me.

Also you dont need ram for recording. And problem can be you use win xp. I had laggy problems with vista on my old pc. When i upgraded to win 7 laggs a bit gone. But i bought new pc that was the soltion

There is so much wrong with this post...
A. YES YOU NEED RAM FOR RECORDING! Where is it supposed to store the footage it can't write to disk immediately?
B. Pentium D. That's Dual (Not double) core.
C. When you 'upgraded' to Windows 7 you bought a new PC and the lag was gone. That's because you bought a new PC.
D. You offer no insight into why I can't record at a decent quality & framerate.
E. Clock speed of the processor isn't everything - a 2.2ghz Intel 2 Core Duo can run faster than a 2.6ghz Pentium D, because 2 Core's were made better. That being said, 2.8ghz Pentium D should still be plenty.

Just ignore him He tries to post stuff about computers, but doesn't know anything about it.

FRAPS always has problems when recording a massive game, for example.
One question, is your PC custom-built? If yes, maybe the components don't work well together.

1. That thing was of topic
2. Shut up. I know more about pc than you
3. This topic is about helping him so calm your balls and shut the fuck up. If you want trouble i can make you some.

Dont try to prove your stupidity. If you would try to help him instead of trolling me everything would be fine but you have to troll everybody right ? Why cant you gtfo from this forum and leave rest of us living our lifes. I was trying to help and you are fucking wrong. Fraps never had problem like that. Most users uses to record even crysis with fraps and it doesnt lagg. Including gta 4, mass effect, bullet storm

get your facts strainght before trying to say something stupid. And if you try to make me angry or provoke me try find wiser than telling something that is not right.

Yeah, ignoring him sounds like it might work.

@Sunny Yes, my PC is custom built, and yes, it is an nVidia with an Intel processor, (I didn't buy the video card, I had it already), and this thread was mainly to ask if that might be the problem, the card itself might not be powerful enough, or if what I thought was enough really wasn't.

*facepalm*
You never said anything right about PCs. I can bring up the list of people who agreed with that.
1. How was that off-topic? I wrote what the problem might've been.
2. You never said anything right about PCs.
3. You haven't helped him in any way, so please just get out.

Your card looks fine. Just a generic and dumb question: are your drivers and DirectX up to date?

afaik any recording software does this following thing:
1.take a picture of each frame
2.save the frame to ram and compress it
3.repeat
4.stop recording and start to compress the frames again and to convert it to a .avi or sth else

point 1.-3. are running while playing and since we all know that capturing the screenshot AND compressing it takes pretty much cpu it makes you PC lagg.

How to fix it:
1. Run at ULTRALOW resolutions with NO detail so you GPU and CPU have enought time to capture und compress wthout bothering the game
OR
2.get a better CPU and/or GPU

I said it can't even capture the window system at a fair resolution. I cannot fathom a 512mb 450mhz Video Card with a 2.8ghz Pentium D & 3gb DDR2 667mhz RAM not being enough to be able to do that, though, I could be wrong, and that what this thread is for.

lol an i7 920 is like 3x faster than a pentium d in single threaded super pi 1m

i7 920 = 8 cores with hyperthreading enabled
pent d = 2 cores

so 4x more virtual cores and each one is 3x more powerful

go figure

Why defrag it if it's not fragmented?
I said I can't record the damned window system - meaning only the OS running
Lol @ 'virtual cores'
@Roni Video Drivers, IDT sound drivers, and onboard network drivers. My motherboard is a D945PAW/D945CZ (Look up the PAW one, it's its more commonly used name.)
