ctrl + alt + del
processing (or something like that) (2nd option in the top)
choose minecraft and the last option change it to high
dont change it to realitic time or that may slow ure comp down

u have to have minecraft running

and i have a 5 year old toshiba and it works fine

edit: try setting you render distance lower and settings graphics in MC from fancy to fast

also if your on the laptop right click you battry button and find the option where you choose the energy and choose more (you dont have to do all of these but they helped my mc out, since it alwase crashed and back tracked everything i did)

I tried it...And makes my laptop WAY MORE!! LAGGY AROUND!! is it 1st time!?

Anything trying to make Minecraft less lag is useless. Trust me, I look for so many ways to make Minecraft run smoother but it still lags on my old PC. Now I got a shiny new laptop for gaming and it runs like never before.

Just to let you people know (If not said before), Minecraft uses a lot of computer because of the world's rendering. When you create a world, It randomly generates "Chunks" whenever you can see/get close to one. Chunk is a 16x16 space of blocks, and it generates almost infinite worlds.
Then there are the mobs. The computer has to calculate simultaneously the movement of each mob.(At'least all this is what i think)

So I guess that changing the render distance to tiny will make the game somewhat faster, as it doesn't have to render that much of chunks simultaneously.

BTW, computer requirements: http://www.game-requirements.com/index.php?title=Minecraft
I can run it greatly on my computer.
Sorry for my kinda bad english

• You need a lot of ram. Preferably over a gigabyte if not more.

I got a "not enough memory" error with nearly 8GB available.

I've got 12 gigabytes of RAM, a 64-bit CPU that has 8 cores, running at 3ghz, and sometimes Minecraft will chug on my rig.

Bought into AMD's Bulldozer chips?

@topic:
I believe Minecraft uses procedural fractal terrain generation, which uses quite a bit of CPU. The Pentium D is not powerful enough in this aspect whatsoever, and you probably have RAM to match the old-ass processor so you might not even get a nicely improved FPS with a "Tiny" view distance. A graphics card is probably not present in your laptop, might be using one of Intel's GMA series. That right there's a problem, since they all really suck quite badly.
