@user oxytamine: You seem to be very close-minded and prejudiced. I highly doubt that you played all games made with Unity3D. I guess that you tried some and came along a lot of Unity3D trash which indeed exists because it's quite easy to copy&paste some crap together in Unity3D and a lot of newbies try to do something with it.

Let me tell you the following: I tried and tested a lot of game engines and did a lot of research and I came to the conclusion that Unity3D is the best choice for my plans with the highest probability that I actually manage to implement and finish my game.

I'm sorry if you doubt that it's possible to create good games with Unity3D but it just tells me that you don't know much about Unity3D or game development in general. But most probably you're just trolling once again.

Of course I haven't played all games made in Unity 3D. Yes I've tried some Unity 3D crap. Yet I haven't seen at least one good game made in Unity 3D.

Why won't you go with BlitzMax which is way more advanced than Unity 3D? Further more - there is Monkey which is even more advanced than any of old Blitz products.

Unity 3D is for 16 years old boys who have a dream of their very own game.

Well, I'm just going to post 2 successfull and good games that were made in Unity3D:
• Temple Run 2, currently one of the most successful free android/iOS games
• Endless Space One of the best space strategy games that exist.

So, I guess there ARE good games made with Unity. Just because you are one of those programmers who start from 0 (and never finish a whole game *cough*) doesn't mean that others are not allowed to prefer a way that reduces the development time by ages and gives the developer more time to focus on the game mechanics itself instead of having to focus on all the engine crap.

@user oxytamine:
People who say Unity 3D cannot be used to make good games are people who have never made a 3D game themselves. I am busy developing my own engine, and the amount of time it takes to come up with code that will allow a lot of freedom and ease-of-use is huge. Unity 3D has got good shaders and fast development cycle.
Also, BlitzMax is no where near as powerful as Unity as it offers no 3D engine, which is crucial in DC's case, as well as the fact that it is based on BASIC and increases compile times by having to be parsed with it's giant feature set. I personally am not a Unity person, but there comes a point where ignorance and small-mindedness turn into stupidity, and you have surpassed this point.

Thank you for confirming my assumption that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Neither BlitzMax nor Monkey have real and ready to use official 3D engines built-in. And they are clearly not more advanced. This is so ridiculous ... discussion is over.

There's a free solution for it in the asset store: http://u3d.as/content/anomalous-underdog/unity-lua-interface-library/1AY

Weird that I missed that one, but thanks DC!

Also, ignore those who are saying that Unity3D is crap, you (and I) know that it's a great and powerful game engine.
If they want to live in their bubble thinking Unity is crap, let them do so.
Don't waste your time trying to convince people who don't want to listen.

If you really want, you can create a good game even in Game Maker.

Exactly!
For example, Hotline Miami was made in Game Maker, and it's a great game!

I would call it as a hit at "underbelly"
And thank you for sharing about "Endless Space", gona try it out...

Naively, Unity3D uses C#, JavaScript* and Boo.

* (Technically called UnityScript, as it is slightly modified)

Using API's and plugins you could get functionality to use other languages too.

Also, here's a list of popular games made with Unity3D:

(Ex. Bad Piggies, Castle Story, Brick Force, Wasteland 2 etc)

Unity kinda sucks, you probably can't make dedicated server for linux now.

Don't just come here claiming it sucks without giving reasons.
There's no reason that DC wouldn't be able to add support for dedicated servers. (Unless he's using some 3rd party API or plugins which for some reasons do not support Linux)
Making dedicated servers with support for Linux (Windows and Mac too) is possible, and I don't see a reason it wouldn't be.
I'd LOVE to see your sources on this absurd information you're coming with.

Personally, I'm really happy that DC has chosen to go with Unity3D, as I from personal experience know that it's a great engine.

(I've been following Unreal Software for a long time, but just now created an account to reply this.)

Please read my post correctly, I gave you reason why it wasn't best choice - you can't develop dedicated linux server in it.

For all other haters, making Stranded III in C++/C would take years.

That really would depend on who is programming. I would probably code faster in C due to it being my language of choice. It really depends on what you want to do rather than the language itself. Using a pre-made engine would make it probably the same speed as using C# inside Unity.

Don't say so just because you can't make it work. nginx offers no PHP support by default, but you can still configure it to work with PHP. And it will work better than Apache in all the cases.

Same goes here. Unity 3D is a bunch of useless modules and shit you don't need.

@user DannyDeth:
So uh, according to your logic C is nowhere near C++. You're just lame.
