Im new I tried searching and I found 2 threads but they still didn't help me.
I'm pretty sure my PC can play this on highest settings but its only playable with most settings disabled(i'm still messing with it to see which settings I can run on max)
My PC specs are:
Intel Core 2 quad extreme @ 3.0ghz
Nvidia 7950gx2
8gb ddr3(I think its 1033mhz)

I read something about updating graphics drivers but I can't update my drivers for my nvidia card. I tried updating and so far none of the updates actually work for me. They make my games run worse. example: any source game I try running with updated drivers is buggy and the flash light doesn't work.

I'm at my grandparents house currently but I can get more info about my computer later if its needed.

Wow that is a extremely old graphics card you have there.

According to the performance I've seen, it cannot appear to beat an i3-2100 integrated graphics card. Which is the obvious reason why you cannot play stranded 2 on its highest settings.
To prove this, I went through the hassle of downloading the game and running it on my i7 mobile processor with its maximal settings.

Results below:

Even running the game with my Nvidia 540m, I can't get a decent framerate either.

But definitely a lot more playable.

I'm sorry, but it is impossible for your computer to run this game on its max settings and not experience any lag.

My laptop specs:
i7 2630qm @ 2.0GHz - 2.9GHz
8GB DDR3 1333Hz (4GBx2)
Nvidia 540m 1GB GDDR3

All tests were ran on its highest screen resolution.

Hope this helped.

if you have low RAM you would also experience lag...

after you start a game...try pressing ctrl/alt/delete and open the task manager and then click the tab PERFORMANCE and see if your memory is running at max while the game is running.

you could possibly increase your ram by going to your STARTUP options and clear the list of programs that start when your computer boots.

clear the list of all startup programs and then reboot your computer so those programs will NOT be using your ram after booting up.

another thing that can help... you could google adding ram memory by plugging in a memory stick to a USB port and assigning it to RAM memory. You would have to google that for details but I heard it helps ALOT if you have low ram memory.

one more thing that could help is you could have viruses from being online....google HITMANPRO and run the free trial and I bet you find more than 50 viruses...you can choose to have them deleted for 30 days in the free trial too. It only takes 1 virus to effect your performance. Even the best scanners like AVAST and McAfee miss viruses occasionally.

as for the ram...I experienced lag too and thought it was my video card...but after adding ram, from 1gb to 3gb it turns out my video card runs the game fine, I was peaking at 1 gb memory.

lastly...if your running windows 7 or Vista there is a .exe file that can fix a lag problem with thos operating systems.

I have:

ATI Radeon x1250 series
AMD duel core 2300 1.90 ghz
3 gb ram

and my computer runs it fine on high settings.

so look at what i said above as it i do not think it is the graphics card. The ATI 1250 is like the lowest end ATI has and is not even supported anymore on thier website.

@user JasJack67:
That graphics card is good enough to run half life 2 on the highest settings.

i had a older one x700 or something like that.
And it was good enough to run half life 2 on medium settings.

I just found out why!
the Nvidia 7950gx2 is a dual graphics card.
And stranded 2 only uses directx 7.
Which isn't compatible with your graphics card.

You only need a new graphics card.

You should get a GTX460 theyre on like 200 dollars.

hmm GTX 460 well not run good with Core 2 quad extreme 3.0ghz but it well run very good at i3-2130 Processor
(3M Cache, 3.40 GHz)

I think DX7 (which is used by Stranded II) is only software emulated on Win Vista and higher. This means the video card is not even really used at all. Hence the bad performance.

I was deeply worried as to why I was only getting like 50FPS out of SII the other day when I played it. If only BlitzBasic used OpenGL! ( or at least had the option to use it. )

My computer can handle crysis on low-mid settings and Arma II on low-mid settings.
I had no lag at all when I played this on my older PC with a 2.4ghz P4 2gigs of ram and nvidia 7600gs(later upgraded to radeon x1600 pro)
So, i'm thinking its just because windows 7 emulates dx7 and doesn't use the graphics card. which is why I'm getting lag.
my monitors max res is 1280x1024 which is why i'm still able to use my old 7950gx2 in my gaming rig.
hopefully for christmas I get a 550ti or enough money to get one.
As for my ram. with just my essentials running(steam, antivirus and my temp sensor. I have 6gb free of a total of 8gb. I have plenty of RAM to use.

if you want a better gaming video card get hd 7970 or GTX 560 Ti
orr GTX 670 Sli they will run gtx 690 over like a trash.

I also have FPS problems on:

8Gb DDR3 1333Mhz RAM
FX-6100 3.3~3.9Ghz
XFX ATI HD6850

With maximal graphics I have about 15~25FPS playing on 1024x768, even when playing Crysis 2 I have better FPS (25~45FPS playing on 1440x900 ULTRA settings DX11 ON).

The weirdest part is that I had about 40~50FPS with my old Nvidia 9500GT 1Gb DDR2.
