any reason why cs2d is locked to 50fps instead of 100fps?

Any idea to why you would not use the search function?

CS2D simply does not need more than 50 FPS.

Put it this way, someone is moving at 10 units per frame with 50 FPS he will move 20 units with 25 FPS. Your distance nor speed won't change as will anything else because CS2D does not require more than 50 FPS to play without any disturbances.

But, even if you still ignore my post. Wait for DC to tell you that with 100 FPS you won't see any difference and in fact your PC will just consume more power. But why would you then listen as you still moan and groan for lag compensation.

Any good reason why you want 100 FPS?

+ less time to compute game functions (now 50fps=20ms but with 100fps=10ms)

What? Did I just completely get ignored?

Seriously guys, take some time to search, learn & read. Please.

oh there are many things cs2d doesn't "need". zombies, npcs, various fun weapons, etc...

as for the reason, it would make the game a bit smoother and reduce the input lag.

as for consuming more resources,
1. it's 2013 not 2003
2. it's a 2d game that's 640x480. it's not going resource intensive at all.
3. in the worst case, just add an option to choose between 50 and 100 fps

and for the amount of code dc needs to add/change, i think it's quite minimal. afaik the only things that are hard-coded to assume 50fps are the client grenade animations and the flashbang's unfade. in those cases it's simply multipling/dividing some numbers by two

@user FlooD: You don't really seem to get it, do you?

Your eyes can usually physically not see the difference between 50 and 100 FPS. It makes no difference at all. It only gets DC a lot of work and gamers something to brag about.

100 FPS won't reduce any form of lag nor will it make much difference in the smootheness.

Also, this has been discussed hundreds of times before and DC has previously always decided against setting the maximum FPS higher than 50.

yes you can see the difference between 50 and 100

go to cs1.6 and set fps_max to 50 and tell me that again

100fps would be an improvement, but 1000fps would be 10x more smoother than that so why not 1000fps

well the ideal case is that cs2d isn't locked to any fps and you can manually set a limit

but i dont think cs2d is coded in a way that would make that easy to implement

No and no. What I meant are primarily the Lua functions. Same as for Minecraft:
if you exceed 20ms by running expensive code you end up with dropping fps -> lag.

My monitor is running at 60Hz and I tell you, these ~10fps will not make it so much smoother.

there is no expensive code in cs2d that takes more than 20ms on reasonably modern hardware.

if you use a monitor that is running at higher than 60, like a crt or a 120hz lcd you'd notice a very obvious difference

@user FlooD:
1) http://www.unrealsoftware.de/files_cat.php?cat=15&lan=2 aka poorly written scripts
2) I dont think the difference will be so huge on 640x480

Those are lua scripts. Running on server's that cost about $1500+ of computing hardware. If they can't run lua scripts for cs2d. Then they shouldn't exist in the first place.

@user Yates:
We're not asking to make the game faster, but have the game refresh at a faster rate. Why would it matter if it consumes a bit more power? You might as well not even turn your computer on to save even more power. Games these days are about 20GB's in size and require way more 'power' than this. Its the year 2013, the hardware can definitely handle it.

Why the heck are you all being so negative about this? If your main argument is that you won't see the difference. Then why bother defending your statement in the first place. If there is no difference, then why bother even worrying about the game being at a higher fps.

If you are all supporting against this just because 'DC SAID SO' then just stop. You aren't DC, and you do not represent DC and you have no right to argue that this is not a decent feature to add.
As flood mentioned. The most ideal case is that the game is not limited to any fps rate but also has the option for the user to manually set a limit.

Movies in the cinema are usually shown with 24FPS. And do you know why? Because 24 is the amount of pictures the brain can really handle. Everything above 24 just gets put into the subconscious mind. Of course this will still have an impact on how you behave. So let's double the 24FPS to 48 and - woooha, we get a 50FPS limit for games! Everything above that is just useless. You don't need it. Your brain can't handle it. The only reason why you might use a monitor that is able to display 120FPS is to see 3D stuff (because it runs 2 different pictures with 60FPS each)

movies are not interactive. in interactive things like games (especially competitive cs2d which is very fast paced) there is a huge difference between 24fps and 50fps

and there is a significant difference between 50fps and 100fps, though not as huge.

really, it would help a little, and there is no good reason to not have 100fps in cs2d

mfw it doesn't matter cause 95% of cs2d's remaining population doesn't even get 50 fps

because they're running around with stone age single cores in happytown

They're starting to make movies at 48fps now btw. ex. The Hobbit.

You're wrong. The brain CAN tell the difference above 24fps.
You also just contradicted yourself because if the human brain can't tell the difference above 24fps then there's no need for manufacturers to spend extra money on making 3D movies at 120fps.

See for yourself.

It's noticeable that there is a difference between 48 and 60 fps.
