Possibility of making a new game on CS2D basis?

Hey everyone, today an Idea came into my mind for making a new game, yes I'm a young game dev, well simply I'm 15. I wanna really use the CS2D engine to make my game out of it, I'm not talking about a mod here, I'm talking about a real game. For example: Half-Life 1 came out then they made CS 1.6 out of it, you can say a mod. This is the same thing I wanna do, I'll use my own script, skins, maps, and weopons. I just want an approval, thats all. I still don't know what the game will be about, but I'll go into that once everything gets approved.

Nah, i'm sorry but DC won't agree with that, he don't take ideas of others to make a 100% game.
Only way is to make a mod of CS2D but a 100% game will be hard and also he is busy with Stranded 3 and such.

GeoB99 He asked for the game engine, What are you talking about?

I get the point, but I was asking for the engine.

DC won't give you the source/engine of cs2d. You can buy blitzmax though, that's what cs2d is written in.

Or you could try searching for the game engine before the big update. I'm sure it's somewhere around here but it's definitely not as good as current one. Besides, if you wrote your own, you could make a game that you think is best, instead of using someone else's. It's not a bad thing to do it but you could do what and how you want :3
P.S. Projects forum is for Unreal Software's on-going projects discussion. I don't think it's correct to put it here so I'll move this to uhm... Off-topic maybe? I'll also change the title to better suit what you want to say. "New Game?" doesn't really say anything.
P.P.S. Still not sure if it's correct spot. Maybe CS2D General is better.. Eh, I guess DC will come upon this eventually and he'll move if it's wrong section..

I'm sorry to tell you that CS2D (or at least everything after 0.1.0.0) isn't open source. I won't make it open source because I don't want to make life of hackers even easier. Period. There is no way change my mind about this unless you pay me a huge amount of money - far more than the code is actually worth. I would then rewrite the engine from scratch in Unity3D and give the game another name
and you could stick to the (then again) outdated BlitzMax version
Also the CS2D "engine" isn't designed to be used for any other games at all. This means that there is no additional abstraction layer between the actual engine and the game(play) logic. So depending on what you're planning this could cause some real headaches.
The code of older CS2D versions is available but:
It's Blitz3D! You really don't want to use that ultra old language and engine anymore. Worst thing you can do.
The code is quite bad. I didn't rewrite the game in BlitzMax for fun, you know? I had reasons.
So in short: This won't work or it's a bad idea. Try to find a better/real engine for this purpose or write your own one - you'll learn tons of things doing so.

Let me get this straight, so you want to make a CS2D-like game in Unity3D? Or am I missing the point?
I'm awesome ... and I really like cookies.
No, I actually don't really want to do that. You totally ignored the huge amount of money and selling the source code of CS2D part which is the precondition

Would actually be awesome if you did that.
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. - Psalm 91:7-8 ESV
Your best bet would be to use the current engine (blitzmax). As stated before this game is not open source except for 1.0.0 and below.. i used to mess witht eh source code and had some fun just dicking around when i was your age and tbh i dont know if you could base a new code off the old one. i have no idea how similiar the new engine is.. if you want a free alternative try Unity. plenty of ways to make a top down shooter!
(god damn i haven't posted here in ages!)

I said "far more than the code is actually worth" and "huge amount of money". So we're talking about 5 digits (at least :P) here. I didn't say that it is a realistic scenario...

DC: So your talking about 5k to 50k? or less. But I never knew codes were that much worth

@
Sparty: Well, the sourcecode of Minecraft basically cost Microsoft $2.5 Billion. That's a lot.

DC: I believe you want it more than 10 thousand bucks. What makes the code so worth anyway? Does it include BlitzMax and all CS2D necessaries?

The most expensive part it prob. the spent time. But why would anyone with a straight mind use Blitz3D nowadays?
For a simple game, GameMaker is more then enough.
