DoS Attacks

DC: I haven't really done any damage to Unrealsoftware after the chat we've had.
Not sure about the others doe.
As for the other users:
I know, some users may not forgive me but, at least I stopped..
I accept, I was stupid and did that for no reason at all to ruin someone's fun.
Sorry everyone.

Silosla: Yes, I believe you that you are not responsible for the most recent attacks.

Danilwra: Everything is logged. Of course I can find out the IP addresses but only a very stupid person would attack directly from the own network.
DDoS attacks are commonly executed over bot nets because you need many attackers at the same time (otherwise it would just be a DoS attack). Those bot nets often consist of hijacked PCs and servers. The owners don't even know that they contribute to attacks. The attacker simply sends an attack command with the target IP of the vicitm to an authoritative server which controls the server and that's it. All the bot net systems start to flood the victim with bad/costly requests to overload it.
DoS works the same but with only one attacker. Therefore it is much weaker and easier to stop. Here you can simply block the IP in most cases.

DC: You might want to consider DDoS protection. It may require a change of host provider but even a small plan can help a lot. Of course it's up to you how much money you wan't to spend on hobbies. It seems that Unreal Software is really suffering from the repetitive attacks.
Other choise is to split services to multiple hosts so Stranded won't get shut down by angry kids from CS2D. I know it makes administration of the services a bit tricky but definitely worth a try.

Software has no limits.

Danilwra: Banning the attacker's IP is hard unless if the attacker isn't disguised (using VPN, proxies, etc.) to hide it real IP.
Moreover, the attacker can have a dynamic IP (which means the IP is not a static one and the IP is changing to time to time and is not same) and you can ban IPs as you want, however you can't stop the attacker if the attacker use a proxy, VPN, etc. to hide it real IP.
In conclusion, a simple attack can be prevented in some way but a toughest attack is hard to prevent.

DC: have you considered to make Stranded III and CS2D do serverlist requests to plain text files from website(s) in case that the master server is not reachable by the game?

the old cs2d serverlist was a plaintext website and it was slow.

ohaz: I saw that through the old source code, but I meant that this could be used for whenever the master server is down. It's better than a cache list, isn't it?

I had left Unreal Software's until I decided to return and one day was not available the website, it was for that problem or was my bad connection.

Your IP detective Is a geolocation tool found on the Internet for free.
Your 'lawyers' are useless, they cannot do anything In these cases.
Your English is horrible.
The attackers may use a VPN, or may have a dynamic IP that changes once in a while.
And therefore, your argument is Invalid.
Want my IP?
Come and get It, before I get yours.
And by the way, calm your tits.

DC: DC, may your provide the source IPs from where the attacks are coming from?
