Have you restarted your laptop to see if it is lags again? And out of curiosity, what's your laptop's specifications?

yes, check your task manager. Knowing you, you probably downloaded some virus off a hentai blog. Go to the process list and find whichever process has a high "CPU" rate. And kill it. Don't worry if it's a system process either.

Next get an app (software) like CCleaner to check what you've got on the autostart list and disable whatever you do not need. Like skype. Seriously you skype a lot. Disable that.

@user Nekomata: I would not kill the process (as sometimes the virus is injected on the ACTUAL system process or there's no actual virus) but instead, search about it and then, take an action.
I had a similar issue yesterday and fixed it with simple steps (like going to control panel and do X,Y,Z). Windows has lots of performance leaks when it comes to less powerful computers. However, you're right, he should get an antivirus or cleaning software.

@user Black Wolf: Reinstall your computer and spam F9, if you get to a setup wizard than it will reinstall the system you got with your PC.

or
run command prompt as Administrator and type in these commands:

echo off
cls
sfc /scannow

than wait for around 1 hour (if you have a lot of files)
and restart.

or buy new windows cd and reinstall.

if you have problems in the future you can also use your phone to skipe..

you really dont need to buy a new cd from microsoft, as they offer a download if you have a working win-key (most of the times on the back of the battery).

Norton? As far I know, Norton is a resource hog (meaning that it consumes too much resources) and some people don't recommend it anyway. Maybe this is a little probability that lags you a little your PC, not sure though about how much it consumes on your laptop.

@user Black Wolf: It would be very, very, very weird to see them disregard your laptop JUST because it has cracked software. In fact, they would probably remove all software on it and put a clean install of Windows on it.

Everyone uses cracked software. Even they do.
