For the longest time, I have been a fan of Stranded. I’ve tried the odd mod for it and I’ve also tried the Gmod 10 mod (Which I didn’t find very interesting… A good idea, but not great). So with ideas such as these for Stranded, I have come up with one of my own. With the new game Crysis coming out soon, I was thinking that someone or the Unreal Software team themselves could make a mod for Crysis which would be Stranded! Crysis has an amazing and powerful level editor that can be simplistic for beginners and more complicated for the more advanced.

Stranded models could have that nice, high polygon Dx10 look or Dx9 look. Things like visual effects would have already been done for you; an example of this would be the Day to Night transitions, as well as the vegetation (Which can be simple placed and modified) and ocean currents/waves.

I assume that Crysis will release an SDK (Source Developer Kit) in the near future after the game being released, which will allow people to mod it to their desire.

So that’s my idea, I hope that the way I have said it doesn’t sound that bad but if it does, in my defence I am writing this at 3am. I have posted 2 videos of the level editor in use so that you can see what I was trying to state earlier in a visual context. So with all this said… Any ideas? Possibly feedback? Maybe even a possibility of it happening ?

To see the level editor in action for yourselves, take a look at these 2 videos posted for a quick look into the powerful tool.

I don't think that anybody, especially not DC (he's got no time and I don't think that he want's to create a mod for another game)
The graphic indeed is great, but did you think about the people whose Computers aren't strong enough?
Graphic's not everything boy
I think it's a shame that a game with such great graphics, seams to be just another lousy shooter

I may also add that DC is a lazy bum, and highpolygon models are an awesome lot of work.

Oh, and btw, SDK means Software Development Kit
Sry that I'm so picky about this, but CryEngine is neither Source nor is it OpenSource

I'm not exactly talking about graphics... Graphics are nice and all, but what really matters is the game. In the older days, games had much better game play and acceptable graphics. For example Dungeon Keeper was a crazy fun game, but it lacked graphics, WHO CARES!?

My point on the use of Crysis engine would be making the Island itself... The editor tools are, like I said, are simplistic if they need to be. Making a simple island to run around on, making shelters and hunting animals would be awesome in the type of foliage the game has! The polygons for the creatures doesn’t have to be astronomical, but it could have afew more points and better textures which would immerse you more into the gaming environment. Stranded is already an awesome game with a great new way of fun, but with these great island making tools, the world the Survivor is put in can be much more rich and immersive.

And to Bizzl, lol my bad, it was 3am and I was falling over in my chair. I just wanted people to know what I meant when I said SDK, so really it would be like CryEngineDK or something.

But yea, my point is graphics aren’t always the most important thing, but the way the game immerses you into the world is. Having trees and bushes all around you, the foliage moving as you do, stalking and watching your pray behind a tree, instead of you stand on a rock and have a raptor run around it in circles while you shoot it with a bow... I’m sorry if I'm rambling or repeating the same thing but it was all just a random unorganized thought I had. I’m not trying to bash Stranded in any way, considering I love it and think it’s a great idea, I’m just saying it would be much more immersive and fun if it had the kind of islands Crysis had.

P.s sorry once again if I ended up rambling a lot >_>, I tend to do that…

you, for example? I completely agree with you that fun doesn't depends on pure gfx, but you didn't say that in your first post. You just suggested to remake stranded on a high end engine (even one that currently is the real end of the ladder )
So, everyone thinks you're one of this kiddies that equals fun with graphics. Quad Erat Demonstrandum
Nothing against you, it just seemed that way

Yeah, that's a nice idea, but why the heck the most bloated engines of all ?
That would be like disassembling a Mini Cooper and reassemble it arround a V8-BigBlock. It sure would be a heck of fun, but you will ride against the next wall, at least if you can avoid all Mini-Cooper-Fans (they would chop you into little pieces )

I'm not sure, but Stranded II was always intended to be a comic style game.

That's even more stupid
Thus who don't know what a SDK is should shout their mouth and be quiet, because they don't know anything about the topic

okay, I admit it would be cool to have a real survival simulation, but only under three conditions:
1. VR Equipement
2. Multiplayer, if not MMORPG
3. OpenGL
Okay, maybe Crysis can do the first two, but the last probably not.

*sigh* I'm talking to much, it doesn't matter anyway. you of course can always try such a mod. We will even applaude you if you do a great job.
However, only few here can really help you, because most have either no time, or no software, or no hardware, or no skill to help you, sry

Lol, the fact that anyone would consider my idea for a mod makes me happy.

Anyhow, it was just an idea and I was spit ballin' it really. I can understand not many people have the hardware or software to play/make the thing I desire but hey, it’s always nice to dream...

Who knows... Maybe some day the Stranded team will hit it big and re-make it but for now, I guess I'm happy... Just, I would like to see a few more maps with a huge island and great foliage

In one of the beta versions I attempted to make a huge island that had most of the elements in it (Jungle, Desert, Winter) but near completion I realized that I could figure out how to spawn animals and that I didn’t know squat about Scripting. So I deleted it and a week later, another version came out and I assumed the map wouldn't have been compatible anyway.

K, aside from anything, Thanks for listening The English Stranded Community! Sorry if I caused any headaches -

Shut the crap dude. Have you ever thought about the people who had computers which cannot control those graphics? DC is not a lazy bum. And in the older days, nfs was great while it lacked graphics and before EA Games ruined the CNC series, CNC was much more better.

This is not about EA's strategy. I know you said that to illustrate that graphics aren't everything, but Isuress did not say "Hey, let's ruin the strong sides of the gameplay and replace it by a bunch of eye candy that nobody needs".
There are games that have both.

Anyway, this discussion is really, really pointless.
DC makes those games because he likes to program. Of course he could obtain better results, especially with the graphics, if he would make mods for state-of-the-art-game engines, but it wouldn't be entirely his games then and people would need the particular mod base to play them.
He has said that, roughly, several times.

So if you love the idea very much, you must find people in some Crysis mod community to join such a project.
But not here.

As I saw crysis videos I also thought: wow, thats the perfect engine/environment for a game like Stranded (I already thought this as I played FarCry btw). It's just damn obvious that everyone who likes Stranded thinks this when he sees it. It would be really nice to have something like a Stranded Mod for this game and maybe I'll really have a closer look at this - in two or three years...

I've other projects I want to realize and I just finished Stranded II which still needs some updates. So I'm not the right guy for something like this - at least in the next months/years. And I also dislike the idea of having a Stranded III as mod. I wan't that everyone can load my games without having to buy another game for this. Furthermore this would exclude everyone from playing who has no high end hardware which is not really good...
