Use this thread to ask all the question about modeling and graphics:
Which programmes to choice,
how about animation,
how to add my models to game
etc.

My first question: How is made the rain? Is that just planes "falling" down with texture of rain or what?

I think that the rain and snow are just sprites falling.
But I'm not sure.

Also what model formats are supported in stranded? Because I can't save, or open .b3d models.

Supported are .b3d and .3ds, however you can;t make animations with .3ds. If there are some others, I don't know about it...
And you can save even load .3ds in DeleD Lite. It's not so bad editor. It's for free.

Look in the folder "mods\Stranded II\sys\gfx" for the files "rain_a.bmp" and "snow_a.bmp" to answer your question.

Yes, that's exactly why I'm asking... These files are used as a texture for planes falling down or how is it made?

well, the rain for example is hardcoded in S2, but you could use the sprite infos. Sadly, they're not falling, but you could arrange something with some setpos scripts.

no. use a converter for 3d models to convert your models to a format which is supported or use good modelling software which can im- and export these formats.

I have a question - what do I need to do to attach a texture to a model? I'm using Sketchup, then using Deep Exploration to convert to .3ds, then using BiTurn to convert to .b3d (a little complicated, but I'm terrible with other modeling software, so I'm happy to do whatever it takes to be able to use Sketchup). I thought I had it right, but the object shows up all in white in-game.

Not sure because thats a lot to do just for a model. There might be an option somewhere that asks where the texture is located, set it to the gfx folder and put the texture in there.

Or use Deled here
It's a good free 3D modeler and can import and export .b3d Also when exporting it will ask you where the texture file will be so it's very easy It's what I use.
