ohaz: New layouts suck because bugs come with it. ohaz has written
the comment length limit has been removed. spammers are already exploiting it to post the number PI to the 6000th digit and similar stuff. instead of using the @ sign to refer to someone some of their "marketing experts" must have thought that this just wasnt sticky enough for people to remember when google wants to promote google+ so they changed it so you now refer to someone by writing e.g. +ohaz. this has no advantage and is just confusing to everyone who sees this for the first time now. while I think it's a plus that you dont have to hit "show comment" a hundred times anymore when you want to read a lengthy conversation, the new system of showing the best comments first has strong traits of reddit - all it needed was further indenting of replies to replies and you'd be there. and I want to stress out that this is by no means a good thing; on reddit the most popular opinions get voted up more and more exponentially compared to the slightly less good comments which makes these fall fthe area of the users' attention spans at some point. at least the old system of showing only 2 upvoted comments rotated them after a while when new comments got many upvotes lately. on english comments it now everywhere shows a "translate" button but while I understand english perfectly fine the google translate results are just fucking atrocious. of course there will always be some people who dont speak a certain language but english really is a world-language today so those people should be a minority. plus, they got by all the time before without this and using google translate wont help them to learn english either. or to give another example, if there was some chinese comment I would just ignore it because neither do I speak chinese nor can I read it and neither can google translate and using it will probably not help me much to understand what the chinese-writing autor wanted to say. at least there should be an option to disable the translate button. further there seem to be some bugs where users do not see the comments at all, cant write own comments or reply to comments. maybe it's just because this layout is still new and this'll be fixed soon. or maybe not, noone can really say... (e.g. the "give feedback" link in the footer has been linking to http://www.google.com/tools/feedback/intl/de/error.html for years now 
) being able to use *bold*, /italic/, -striked out- in the coments is kind of nice but being able to use actual links will just be another way for spammers to abuse the system. Hurri04 already said the old comment system prevented many kinds of spam and it was an easy system. The design of it was also much better. Now I have to use Google+ which I don´t like (because I don´t like social networks in general). Youtube and Google+ have nothing in common so they shouldn´t be linked. Snark: I still have my YT profile as an addition to autocreated g+ profile. I was asked several times whether to "upgrade" my YT account. Hurri04, but still, it has its uses. Even if you're able to understand most comments, sometimes there might be 2 sentences in it which you don't quite understand (especially since you and me are talking about A-level people most of the time, I've seen a lot people who use the internet but have no clue about english. Even in germany). And even if the google translation isn't perfect and sometimes translates utter bullshit, most of the time it's good enough to understand what the text is about.
