Compressing while recording would kill the CPU, writing it RAW kills the HDD.
*wonders why there isent some RAM recorder*

How version fraps you use ?
The lasted version is 2.9.8 (go here to get lasted version).

Barbossa, The new versions on Fraps are laggy. I suggest you find an older version of it and record with it, that's what I do.
If you want older version, go to this website that I love: File Hippo. It shows EVERY version of softwares.

I think that would help. I always lag on games when i record but when I watch the movie, it turns out to be I wasn't lagging. 
Is it like WinRAR, it shows a trial time, and when the time expires, the software lost some functions but stays in our computer or like when time expires we gotta pay or software will uninstall or even we pay to download (- no money, no download)...
