I don't think much of it. Just don't execute anything strange. If my knowledge is correct... a virus can't just jump on your system anyway.

Yes, it can.

In theory you're partially right. On a perfect system, no virus could be run without the command of the user.

But all programs contain bugs and some (for example buffer overflows) allow the unallowed execution of program code, for example if a faulty image library loads a malicious image in your browser.

I was wondering about browser images and temps and such.... I guess then a real-time scanner for that purpose would be a good idea. That or turn off images and cookies and whatever else to make the margin smaller.

Maybe software developers should compress all their installers? They can't do anything then. Of course, file compression utilities should remain uncompressed. That doesn't help pictures and junk though.

I scanned Firefox once and it came up positive with a few engines. I decided to look it up since they're quite a large developer. According to the internet firefox had a virus loose at some time. Do they still? I don't know... But I'm not takin chances! Opera is fine with me...

Screw this! Just turn off your PC and never go on it again!

Linux stuff works for Windows?

EDIT: I just realized that OpenBSD is an OS.

My dad is going to try Linux later. He doesn't do alot of stuff on his system and we figure everything he does do can work on Linux. I just wish there was more support... but no... wINDOWS and mAC has to have all the bananas.

Just run Antivir (or any other AV program) to remove it.

But your system is already a highly compromised machine. In such a case it is always the best to reinstall the OS and do all the updates. Actually you should always have a Windows CD prepared with nLite or similar programs which includes all updates.

I would suggest saving your most important things somewhere. Then after you format and reinstall your OS you could make them undergo virus scanning. I have no idea what the conficker does exactly, but it seems like a good, safe idea to me. Especially if you zip them first.

I don't know, correct me if I'm wrong.
