Whats the game?
I would suggest you to buy some CD polish for this
or store games in the hard disk instead of inserting disk every time
If you dont have any of the above available then host a funeral for the disk
we mourn for a loss of a game

This may sound weird, but rub some toothpaste to the cd, carefully wash it off and dry the disk and put it back to the ps2.

This helped me, when i had some little scratches on some major parts of the disk.

When my disk was scratched, I carefully "cleaned" it with alcohol with wool and it worked.

You might want to look up a product called "DiskDoctor". They're usually about £20 where I come from and they work by brushing a fine layer of plastic off the top of the disk, reducing the impact of scratches and scars. Not only that, they have a long life span and work on any type of disk. I find mine an invaluable investment. Especially when you find that your backup disks are scratched.
