Copyright issues and unofficial rules

This shit has really started to piss me off lately.

Far too often we have users spamming or flaming under false copyright claims and other such BS and its flooding the comments sections.

Its the job of the moderators to enforce copyright NOT the users.

Therefore I am creating this thread to educate as well as warn people about the actual existing US copy right law and their respective counterparts in other nations.

Rule # 1 No one is to spam comments such as "its cut and pasted therefore its illegal under copyright" exc.

Unless the said file actually infringed upon someone elses intellectual property I will not tolerate any such comments.

So long as the said file is actually edited and some form of credits are given it will remain on the sight as it is protected under the free and fair use part of the US Copyright Act of 1976, 17 U.S.C. § 107. The US laws are taken into consideration 1st and foremost since the majority of the servers that host websites are based in the US and therefore subject to its laws.

For the file to qualify as being stolen it would have to be a direct unedited cut and pasted copy of the original with or with out the said person asserting that they created the original content.

Only then would it be in breach of copyright law and summarily be taken down by one of the mods or admin.

The only other circumstance under which a file may be removed is if the original author cares enough to contact us to remove the said file in which case we will.

That said a majority of content has to be ported or edited for it to work properly in CS2D and therefore it qualifies under free and fair use. Credits are still highly recommended tho.

Copyright Act of 1976

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Copyright_Act_of_1976

Rule #2 If you think a file may be stolen or a breach copyright laws then please DO NOT spam on the page.

Kindly contact any one of the mods "me included" and we will look into the matter and take action accordingly. Be sure to provide a link to the file in question as well as provide proof via links to the original file or files.

If you want to have flame and spam wars do it via PMs NOT in the comments section.

Rule #3 DO NOT be an asshole to other members regardless of your views about their work. You know if they just keep uploading stolen & or shitty files and the such. We know they are assholes but their is no need to stoop to their level of immaturity.

Its far better to just ignore such files, don't comment on them and ignore them. If not report them to a mod. I have plenty of free time on my hands so feel free to PM me if you happen to come across any of this crap ill take care of it ASAP.

If they lash out at you then fine its justified to bite back so to speak but remember keep it off the comment sections. Argue amongst yourselves via PM or maybe even the off topic or preferably the trash section of the forums.

All those rules are -more or less- already part of the original set of rules:

Rule #1 = rules §5.5 - Do not behave like a moderator and do not comment rule violations or spam

Rule #2 = rules §2.1 - Needless and/or doubled posts (spam) are forbidden, no "+1" posts

Rule #3 = rules §5.1 - Show good behavior and simply don't be a stupid asshole

If anyone has any comments or questions feel free to post but keep it respectful.

tl;dr
