Just a-wondering... is there any advantage to using DirectX instead of OpenGL, or OpenGL instead of DirectX for CS2D?

The game runs fine for me when using either mode, and I simply was wondering if there is any real difference between the two.

DX was created for 1996/8 (One or the other) Windows. And is also used on Xbox.

I'm not sure about OpenGL, some people say it is faster to use if you have the right graphics card for it. But I would prefer DX simply because my experience with OpenGL sucks.

Edit: Eh, DX was created in 1995. I feel so bad now.

It's quite simple: It totally depends on your video card and its drivers. For some systems DX is faster for others OpenGL is faster. On some systems (yours for example, user RichNagel) there is no notable difference at all so it really doesn't matter what you use.

Saying DX/OpenGL is faster in general for all systems does not work. It depends.

Thanks for the info, DC... that's what I was thinking.

BTW, is there any way to remove the framerate cap of "50" from the game via command line or CVar?

Would be a good test between the two renderers when the game is running uncapped.

OpenGL have a little bit more quality than DirectX in CS2D.

I can see bullshit in this post. So prove it or please - do not post.

I can only see OpenGL being better in rendering 3D games. And CS2D is obviously not 3D.

It's because of your GPU not because of the difference between those 2

Well, its only for my computer. I can see text more clearly with OpenGL than in DirectX.
That's why I said "I can see difference".

Lol what?
Edit: Oh it was typo.. Silly me..

And that's the reason against DX.
Microsoft wants monopoly, and that is not good.

Performancewise OpenGL & DirectX don't make any difference. (with 3d applications OpenGL & DirectX one might be 5% faster. With a 2d game it's probably less than 1% difference)
Qualitywise: If you have activated high quality settings in your graphics drivers options OpenGL & DirectX can look differently depending on your graphics card and graphics driver.

It's a matter of ideology:

OpenGL: Can be used by everyone. PS3 (Sony), iPhone (Apple), Android (Google) and many more...
-> For everyone

DirectX: Is restricted to Microsoft only (Windows & XBox).
-> Only for Microsoft Monopoly
