Shadows make the map look fancy.
If there were no any, it would suck.

It's basic, it's easy to use, people are used to it .. and it's not all that ugly. Innovation is important, but not every good map has to be "OMG CUSTOM TILESET AND 220982390 SPRITES"

I personally like the defaults because I really can't be arsed to make tiles myself. I probably could if i wanted, but it's even more time consuming than sprite making.

I like the map, but I'd probably force it to run in standard simply because the flag placement are in locations where it's overly open spaced.
