Thanks to the latest version, I've managed to build a big base out of palisades and gates, with some great features on the inside.
These pictures were taken from my 2 stances:
You can see 3 coffee trees, 1 banana palm, 1 coconut palm, 1 sheep, some berry bushes, some hemp and grains, 12 grape vines, 4 grown cacao trees, 1 herb patch and a garden. For storing stuff there's 1 big storage(for misc), 1 storage (for food), 1 stone storage and 1 wood storage. There's also a well and a fireplace(how obvious). The two gates, one on each side, have 2 defense towers(4 in total) defending them.

Note that I'm playing in a random map and there is no modification in my game. This means these kind of things can also be achieved by everybody else.

awsome base man. iv been building a kick ass base of my own you see. The entrance is right ontop of a mountain where a stance is overlooking the entire base from a huge height and the rest of the best just falls down to the bottom of the mountain. The mountain with the stance makes a great lookout out tower since its height is improved massively with the mountain. Infact its so high you cud probably kill a bird with your bare hands! That sounds like somethig neat. 
What comes to scripting, I've been thinking about making some proper use to the blood leaves. Perhaps I would smash them? Smash them into bloofleaf pulp, which is used as a salve to stop bleeding, or distill the bloodleaf pulp into a tonic with water.
