Then I can suggest Unity 3d, you can create games with very good graphic, too, but its difficult to use it. Its also free.
Here is a link:

Edit:I just noticed, you can't script in this program. Okay, time to check your suggestions.

Dim3 is a good engine to start with for beginners. free aswell!
Game making software isn't that cool, but if you still prefer those, take a look at Game Maker.
And you shouldn't start jumping into making 3D games before you don't know how to make 2D games.

There are tutorials, duh.

I've taken some lessons by that I mean, Unity tutorials, and was able to create a somewhat cool FPS game with nice explosion and lighting effects. I have to say it's pretty easy to work in, although I found that the texturing part was a bit confusing until I worked that out, same with the implemention of skyboxes. You only need a tutorial for that and you'll know how to create what you're looking for.

Read on about Unity here.
To obtain a free trial of Unity then go here. If you like the product and is a game developer then buy it, that's all I'm saying. You won't regret it.

But I'm also designing JavaScript games from scratch which is pretty fun.
Check it out if you seek inspiration on how to create a 2D top down shooter game, enjoy.

LÖVE is an *awesome* framework you can use to make 2D games in Lua. It's free, open-source, and works on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

I have it, but when I turn it on I see a pig.
You've made my day. Try some pillows, they should help

Dude really, download it and see. Oh and also when I open lua* with it, it shows me some error.
