DC can put a java irc page so, people can chat without the game or mirc.

Yes. But doesnt have to be ajax, can be flash too.
Because in some shoutboxes you need to fill in the extra "What is 1103 x 74?" or "Type: UX69J" fields before submitting a message and that's really annoying. In chatrooms all you need is a username then you can submit messages anytime you feel like it that's why it's called IM (Instant Messaging). Some chatrooms require user to register to gain authorization to chat although that will just happen once.
CS2D already got a chat channel on IRC (Quakenet, #cs2d), by the way.
a shoutbox is simply retarded and not a useful way for serious communication. it leads to spam and flame in first instance. no chance.
