Hello you mapmakers out there. CS2DWorld hosts its first ever Mapmaking Contest starting today! This contest is open for everyone to join and will close at 20 November.

The idea is that you make a 5on5 map that is suited for fow and clanwars. This means enough space, good cover and balance between CT and T.

Rules:

* Post your map plus map overview in this thread or preferably the one on www.cs2d.nl before the deadline.
* Only post maps that are yours.
* Use tilesets for which you have permission.
* Multiple maps per person are allowed
* Don't use clannames in map name
* By submitting your map you give us the right to host the map on servers and put it up for download.

A selection of the 4 or 5 best maps will be made by the jury. After that everybody can vote on their favourite map. If 2 maps have equal votes the jury decides again.

Prices:
The winning map will be hosted on one of our servers for at least a month and the winning mapmaker will get admin rights on that server. Also the winner will get the mapmaker medal. The rest of the maps might get hosted as well if I like them.

Most likely I'll participate.
What kind of map size would be best suited for that?

Why don't you just post this on your own site?

Since, this is pretty much just advertising.

I wonder what DC and the Mods think about this sort of thing. I mean, if this sort of thing is allowed, people are going to flood this forum with threads that have links to their site and such.

I'm wasn't saying that this contest is a bad thing. It's just all of these clan/community-affiliated threads may turn into a bad thing.

@grandmyth: the maps should be designed for 5v5 so think de_dust2 size
@cooliog: your posts are off-topic. if you have a problem with these types of threads, make a thread yourself and go complain there.

Plus I made it perfectly possible for people like you who out of principle do not want to click on external links to still participate by posting their map in this thread. So please CoolioG, no matter how badly you want to block my efforts to get the CS2D scene more lively, post that you'll participate or don't post at all. I hate backseatmoderation, or whatever the current term is.

The size of the map depends on how closely packed the routes are through the map. Try to imagine a match on the map you made. For example de_dust has a lot of fighting going on in the middle of the map because there is a bottleneck, this makes it look smaller than it actually is. But I'd say no more than 2 bombspots or 2 hostage rescue points.

Oh yeah that's another point - there have been people playing serious wars in construction - are there any limitations upon map types?

Yes, only for standard mode. I wrote that in the other topic but I forgot to mention it here. Thanks.

Ugh, Torque, if you read my post, you would have seen that there was nothing wrong with this. Frankly, I could careless.

I just don't want to see a bunch of different clan/communities posting threads on the "cool, new thing" happening on their forum.

No, i'm not. But, if you look at the different threads that are locked on a daily basis, you'll notice that 1/3 of them are for specific clans/communities.

I mean, fuck. This is a good idea; no one said that it wasn't.

I've seen a lot of good map entries already, but the deadline isn't over yet so I'd like to remind all the creative minds out here that the competition is still running until the 20st of November 2010!

Yes it is allowed to enter maps that you've made before this map contest as long as you can prove that you created them in case someone else claims them, and as long as the maps have not been entered in previous map contests.

I've already posted my entry but hopefully I'll make another one. I'd love to see them hosted on a server

I've seen a lot of good map entries already! We'll have a nice reserve of maps for future tournaments :). Anyways, I just want to remind you all that the deadline is in a week so if you still want to win one of the prices you should start finishing your project about now. Good luck to all of you who are still working!
