In Soviet Russia you eat the zombies.
Zombies? Really stupid thing...
Who are dead that can't come back to eat us!
And the infected version of zombies, that's an
another stupid thing..

Well, infected humans are not zombies, as danny said, a zombie has no beating heart, his muscles don't receive the necessary oxygen to work properly thus making movement impossible. Zombies are purely fictional creatures, if you actually think they could exist, then you could as well believe in unicorns and fairies. Infected humans are a possibility though, the same goes for any other living being.

Well, Time. Facts say different. Zombies can exist, if a human got some sort of disease that enabled their cells to stay living even though they have no oxygen left in them.

Only problem is that we probably wouldn't have the urge to eat other humans if that happened. All that would happen would allow a person to carry-on living even if their heart stopped. The only way to kill this kind of person is to chop their head off.

Hence the typical zombie-kill style popularised in movies.

The whole life, as we know it, is based on this oxygen cycle. Oxygen is in water, thus water is life. We have oxygen in our bodies, we are alive.
What bloody disease could make our life system, developed by mother nature during zillions of years of evolution change within a matter of seconds? That's what I call science fiction.
Our bodies were built to be only fueled by oxygen. There is no way this would change, unless you are willing to wait quite some few milliards of years of evolution and see whatever happens to us. And that only takes place when the environment around us changes, and we don't have any choice but to evolve or disappear.
So yeah, God himself (if he exists) wouldn't be able to do what your disease can without having to completely change the structure of life.

@Time:
You have a good point. But we can be mutated without millions of years of evolution. Look at the several hundred thousand super humans. Just because we normally are based along special rules doesn't mean the rules can't be changed. I can guarantee that life can survive without oxygen. The reason we die when our hearts stop pumping is because all the cells in our body start producing an acid ( you feel this acid when you run too far or too fast ) when they have little oxygen. This acid starts killing the cells.

But if we could mutate a cell so that it does not produce the acid, we could stay alive for atleast a few days after our hearts stopped.

Bottom line:
There are so many unknown diseases, they're maybe one (unkonwn) that infects part of the brain, killing the memory and sanity, causing the human being to think it's fine to eat another human. That disease could also be contagous (Did i spell 'contagous' right?) and who that 'infected' human tried to eat or bite, they may also get the bacteria/virus. That is the only possibility of anything like off something like L4D. Chances of that happening are like 0.0005%, So L4D gamers, don't start buying minguns and all that, because it's probably never going to happen ;).
