Hi all.
I have linux mint 12 x64 and don't have sound only in cs2d. Other games like OpenArena are playing sounds but not cs2d... Before format i just changed sound drivers to openal and everything was good but after i formated computer i don't have choice. There is only FreeAudio. What can be reason? Why cs2d don't see OpenAl?

I downloaded openal-soft-1.13 from http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/Forms/AllItems.aspx then i installed it. So I have OpenAl. Other games are running with sound, I'm not sure but I think that this games are using openal too... Maybe I can set openal manually with cs2d config files?

EDIT

I change linux to ubuntu and everything is good

guess i'll hop on this topic since it's the most recent one of the same issue.

no sound in Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit

checked openal and it's already installed:
Quote
vain@vain-ubuntu:~/CS2D$ sudo apt-get install libopenal1
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
libopenal1 is already the newest version.

tried all sound driver options in-game. game runs fine otherwise, just no sound.

since it's marked as "solved" i'm wondering if you'd be willing to share that solution?

Edit: guess i'll have to make a new post

I never did get the sound to work in ubuntu 12.04. I tried everything i could think of but gave up after a few days.
I wasn't really a fan of their unity interface anyway so i went ahead and switch to linux mint 12. It worked fine for me as soon as i installed ia32. only problem now is that the fullscreen doesn't work right but i can deal with that. strange though that the ubuntu never would pick up on openal. in mint it had multiple openal options and it worked first try, and linux mint is actually based on ubuntu. o.O silly linux.

Hi,

I FIXED IT, YAY

Just install libopenal-dev:i386 !

Let me know if that worked.

I've never had any sound in CS2D on any Linux distribution. Installing libopenal-dev:i386 didn't fix the problem. The problem is that BlitzMax might use Open Sound System. Which is "deprecated", implying that many distributions have chosen to disable OSS support in their kernels.
