Just a quick message to say how much I've enjoyed this mod. I wanted to thank JJ for his time and effort in creating it. I've spent the last week playing with this one and I'm enjoying building up my small island in hard mode.

I hope your data recovery goes well!

As an aside, has anyone figured out a workaround for the fertilizer bucket bug? It's fairly trivial creating three new buckets each time but I'd rather avoid it if possible. It seems to only happen with grains, not tomatoes, berries or grapes. Also noticed the fertile tomatoe is spelled "tomato" and the description is for potatos, not tomatoes.

SumWun,
no sorry...i worked on that thing for a long enough time and it just would not work properly. It was replaced with more realistic cookware like a soup-pot and frying-pan.

JDL,
Thanks for the bucket bug report with fertile grains. Glad your enjoying the game...You may want to try it on a large map for and even "deeper" gameplay

Jackr13,
Glad your enjoying the game. If im not mistaken, you can simple left click TheSurvivalist.exe icon and "Rename" it adding -win...like this:

TheSurvivalist.exe -win

then it should run in a window...

I find the small island more of a challenge. It's easy enough to survive even when the raptors spawn outside your cave, but the lack of available land starts to become a drain on resources after awhile. For example, I've stripped both the island and water surrounding it clear of all animal life, and regularly hunt down what little respawns the next day. You need to give quite a bit of forethought to where you're going to clear a patch for planting your crops too, since you're cutting down the few trees you have left. It doesn't help that I love hoarding resources and my storage containers are consuming about a quarter of the island now

Again, thank you so much for creating a really fun mod for Stranded. I can't get enough of it.

Jackr,

I figured it out...left click the .exe Icon and then go to Properties.

Add the -win to the TARGET address.

you must use a space between the Target address and the -win

then click apply

example:
Target "downloads\survivalist\TheSurvivalist" -win

hahaha!

Rain and snow is completely random. There is no guarantee when, or how long it will rain or snow.

This gives way to drought conditions at times, and abundance of rain other times. Moderate weather/rain is called most of the time though, but the possibility IS there to experience drought. As in real life, you just never know what the future holds...will it rain? yes...it's just a matter of when.

Supplemental water can be drawn from crushing leaves or vines with a rock. Or building a distiller and turning bottles of saltwater from the Sea, into fresh bottles of water. You can also drink coconut milk or sheep milk. Some fruits are "juicy" also, providing a way to relieve thirst a little bit...like tomato, or grapes.

Drought conditions may make it difficult to keep a garden growing due to the need to water...but you just have to play the game your own way, and do what you feel is in your best interest, at the time...every game played will have different experiences for every island played.

hey guys...as you know i had that hard-drive crash a while back that had a big update stored on it. It is part of the reason for the delay in my posting a new update.

I still have 1 possibility to extract that data off the bad drive...it will just cost me money and time. The update on that drive is BIG and significant, in-so-much as I cannot bring myself to "redo" the entire update. (ton of work and time was spent on it)

What i am gong to try is to buy the same exact drive and swap the internal "disk" out. I have researched this procedure and it is a good possible solution to retrieve the data off a bad drive. The only way it will not work is if the actual data got corrupted for some unknown reason.

Ouch. that sucks

Hmmm, i seem to have an issue with the map generation... as in the fact it doesn't ever make anything normal ^^, is it just the generator's fault or is it a bug that sometimes i spawn in islands with tons of spawners everywhere.

Anyways, it also seems to be a bug where the shadow of fish and rocks appears on the water surfase with a HUGE size, its quite annoying.

As far as I can tell it's a feature of the mod that any island you spawn will have at least one of everything. This includes helpful things such as resources, and challenging things like monster spawners. Small islands give you a challenge early on by dumping you face to face with a lion and raptor. However careful tactics can mean this ends up forming the foundation of your first shelter (since you only need 2 leather to make a tent).

The shadow effect on the surface helps you determine the location of good fishing grounds. Using the fishing rod doesn't automatically succeed. Instead, you will have a chance to catch whatever is in the area underwater. You can also use the shadows as targets for spearfishing or other forms of hunting fish (such as with sticks of dynamite).

what JDL said

I can only add that the stranded engine is an older engine and we can only get so much in graphics...as far as the shadowing under water.

I have tweaked the graphics along the way for over 6 months, and it's the best it can be imo. Anything more causes lagging and poor performance on even a great computer.

Thus why DC is working with UNITY for stranded 3, and why I decided to build my stand alone survival game using UNITY also. It's newer, better graphics, runs smoother, and can handle alot larger maps without towing down performance.

Uhm, this may be a slightly stupid question, but..
How do you actually play on a map you created using the Editor in The Survivalist? :s. I can only find the "Test" function.

Hi Anna,
No sorry, you can choose the size map and weather conditions from the game menu, and it generates a random map you will start your game on.

This gives every new started game a new map and new experiences. It was intentional on my part, to give the player a unique experience each game they start. Discovering the "unknown" is part of the survivalist experience for The Survivalist game. My MOD was suppose to reflect a "realistic" experience with some "interesting" concepts. Im sorry it fell short of adding your own created maps...but that is why I also removed the "Editor" option in the main menu of this mod.

You could try to save your "custom" map and move it into the save folder, maybe it would load up if you renamed it as a save (.SAV i think), provided it shows up in the game menu when you go to load it from the list of "saved" games. But It might have errors/conflicts idk...i never tested that...i dont think that would work errm.

Ok, maybe if you start a game and save it right away...then open the editor and click LOAD MAP at the top and search for the saved game...(you might have to rename the saved map with a .s2 extension and/or put it in the "maps" folder)... Edit the map as you wish into your custom map, then click the SAVE MAP at the top...(you may have to rename it from .s2 back to the .SAV save extension)... then move it back to the "saves" folder)....then LOAD your map from the game menu LOAD saved game.

Heya Multi,
I'll look into the shadows as you suggest...I am still "on-the-fence" with this mod, until I make some final decisions here in the near future. Maybe I could work something in on the next, an possibly, the final update.
