I am currently using 16GB RAM in my old pc and would like to upgrade to 32GB RAM.

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-B75M-D3V
CPU: i7-3770K @ 3.50GHz
RAM: 2 x 8 GB (GTE BLS8G3D1609DS1S00)

My CPU supports up to 32GB RAM. The problem is that I do not know if my motherboard supports up to 32GB RAM. Some websites tell that it only supports 16GB RAM... There are also websites that say 32GB RAM...

Yes, that motherboard supports up to 32 GB RAM.

Keep in mind that you have only 2 slots for RAM there, so you would need to buy 2 x 16 GB RAM sticks.

@user Hajt: @user DC: Yes... this is strange

@user Bowlinghead: I would like to play games like Rust and still keep other programs running in the background

Do you guys know where I can buy cheap ddr3 ram (2x16GB) or do you think I should buy used ddr3 on ebay?

DDR3 is very old. maybe some of your friends have them laying around and would give them to you for free!
I have a really good experience with mindfactory.de (In Germany) compared to cheap websites like Amazon. I would buy them used on ebay though for cheap because it is an old system - so there is no point in investing too much money.

Maybe a smart move is buy the RAM new and test it first (because your mainboard might not work with 32gb) and then use the 14-day return policy either way. If it works with 32gb then you can buy them used

@user Hajt: Is the rev. supposed to be where it says "x.x"?

@user Bowlinghead: Thank you. I may buy some new ram and return it

@user Marcell: I would like to play games that require lots of ram and I also want to keep other programs running in the background

@user AtomKuh: Yes the "x.x" part in your screenshot is where the motherboard's revision number would be. For my motherboard CPU-Z reflects it as "Rev X.0x".
Might need to open up the case and peek inside to find any markings on the board itself.

I think there is no point to upgrade old platform to 32GB ram. Only if you can get RAM very cheap but still 2x16GB DDR3 are expensive. Consider new platform if you can afford it or other components that will improve overal system performance (like SSD, GPU) No extra benefits with 32GB over 16GB on 1155 because no AVX2 etc. on Ivy Bridge i switch to 1700 Alder Lake 2 weeks ago with 32GB ram from 1155 and its huge difference in performance. anything over Coffee Lake including it will be benefitial more than 32GB ram on dead platform

EDIT: also 12GB ram usage is very high, dont nknow if its idel or you have a lot bloat in back

Agree with Assassin, getting more RAM will not get you anywhere with games specifically, what you would likely need is a graphics card. What do you have now? Please don't say its an Intel HD

@user Marcell: I have a GTX 1650 Super but I do not want to get more FPS by adding more ram. I just want to be able to run games that require a lot of ram and still be able to operate with many other programs in the background smoothly.

@user Cure Pikachu: I will open my case and check the rev later.

@user Assassin moder: I guess if it costs too much to get 2x16GB RAM then I will consider buying/building a new pc with a motherboard that supports DDR5 Ram.

I was also playing minecraft and I also had WSL (Windows Linux Subsystem with VSCode) open while making that screenshot

@AtomKuh, got you, then RAM might be a good choice, but I still don't think you would need 32 gigs with such a CPU. I don't mean your CPU is bad, its still solid even at this age, but I have to admit, I am about only 40% sure RAM upgrade would help.

TL;DR: If in doubt, sitck with 16GB of RAM and save to build new system instead. 16GB is still sufficient.

8GB is sufficient for games that GTX 1650 Super can handle with good framerate. Unfortunately since the motherboard lacked NVMe slot (it's great and cheap upgrade btw, if only), then the performance drop will be noticeable once the RAM is filled because SATA SSD is only limited to SATA3 speed (around 550MB/s, and with HDD this will be magnitude slower). The symptoms of this performance drop is mostly stuttering in programs and games. Perhaps you probably need more optimization in your unused background apps to squeeze possible RAM?

I have 2 laptops with 16GB of RAM and it's sufficient for my needs. My daily one, which is 2-in-1, is good for light games, VSCode, Android Studio, and AVD all at once. The other one has RTX 3060 in it with intensive games such as Cyberpunk 2077 can't even fill the full 16GB of the RAM (with exception of certain Deep Learning tasks).

Any game that requires more than 16GB will probably suffer with GTX 1650 Super anyway. This sounds no more than arbitrary. I would stick to the current sticks and save up more to eventually buy a better PC overall.
