Since BlitzMax got native support of gamepads (I mean it recognizes things like JoyX(), JoyY(), JoyAxisCaps etc etc), why not to add controller support and make this game Steam Deck (GameHub, GameNative) ready?

Next year you can legally fuck my account since it turning 18 (not even mentioning my og acc I lost when DC changed web-site), after all these years I came to decision that one can't make CS2d 2 or whatever (SQ tried this, but he deciced to sing with his backstreet boys wannabe music band), so why just not to update the game with modern controls and sent it to Steam Deck and mobile phones using emulator? On Android it was already playable back in 2019, it only needs proper controls remapping to, say, Xbox 360 cobtroller or things like GameSir G8.

Trust me, I played it and killed players. Shame to them being killed by guy playing on touchscreen.

P.S. Seriously, I used search function, I sure nobody came with that idea before.

Don't the Steam Deck and also most emulators have built-in options to simply remap buttons and/or to add digital joypads which can be mapped to buttons freely?

I doubt that adding native gamepad support would change a lot. I can add it to the todo list anyway.

@user DC: I totally get that the Steam Deck and emulators have great remapping tools, but honestly, native gamepad support would be a game-changer. Steam has been pushing those compatibility labels for the Deck and SteamOS, and having things work perfectly out of the box is a huge factor in their rating system and the overall player experience.

I really believe CS2D could have a massive second life on handhelds, but it needs to feel 'right.' Using a thumbstick to drag a mouse cursor around feels pretty clunky. If we had radial aiming (aiming in a circle around the character) and D-pad navigation for menus, it would feel like a professional console port rather than a workaround.

Also, looking at the ProtonDB page, the game is currently running through Proton rather than being truly native, and the Steam Deck compatibility status is still 'Unknown.' Even with a Gold rating, it’s not the same as native support in Steam's eyes. Getting it officially 'Verified' would be the final piece of the puzzle. I’m super excited about the potential here and glad it's on your todo list!

I tried to play cs2d with oculus rift and I can say is good to aim with controller and good to click menu, creating maps, but can't set controllers joystick to movement, reloading and etc, as the game recognises any controller button as "mouse1". That must be good experience too.
