Not sure how many start on the island. But yeah, they do respawn over night. Unless you destroy the raptor nests. If you get the golden bow and arrows though they're really not much of a problem and the island can be taken care of fairly quickly.

My first time there I wasn't quite sure what was in store for me so I started a storage for all the junk I brought with me, and planted some grapes, berries, and grain. Needless to say I was through the island before the vines could get any fruit on them, and I never finished the storage.

if you still havent beaten this(make roughly 20 odd spears out of stones and branches then search all the higher mountains to find the gold bow you encounter a few raptors thats y you need the spears)
