LOL @ complete bull. Allowing applications is only going to harm your facebook profile. When you click allow it is granting it access to post on your wall, use your personal information that you post of facebook and other acts.
However it is impossible for these apps or even the website to install anything on your computer and run it. Only if you click on Download--and actually double click on the executable!!

When Jela331 was talking about flash earlier, it was most likely using a script to redirect to a virus. I know that some SWF. files can be used to exploit vunerabilities.
Plus, Facebook has had problems with some exploits that allows virus writers to spread viruses anyway.

If you have Avast or something similar and dont open song_mp3.exe and use common sense the chances that you get a virus go down to zero.
I have tips to be safe in Facebook:

Always answer stuff that you trust
AND MOST IMPORTANT! Get Anti-Virus Programs and Internet Security and Optional TUNE-UP ULTILITIES!
