Do I feel like I'm the only one who thinks that film remakes are mostly bad?

Today, I watched a trailer for the film remake called The Thing. While I have watched the original 1982 film created by John Carpenter, I feel that this remake is going to kill it for me.

While I have watched a few good film remakes, I feel that most of them that get made again are a dissapointment.

I recently watched the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street and thought it was dissapointing. I was hoping that Robert Englund would have been able to keep the role of Freddy Krueger instead of changing him with Jackie Earle Haley.

So what's your opinion on film remakes. Do you think they're good? Awful?

You're out.

Actually, I think it's the same with watching the film to a good book or vice versa: It kills the other expierience because it's not the same. So it is with the example you just made and any other film remake. It's every time something else.

Some films that are based on the work of books really aren't too bad for me. The film adaptions of some of Stephen Kings work is good; I particuarly enjoyed Carrie (which I also have a copy of the book) it (which is also getting a remake) and the film 1408; which had John Cusack from Stand by Me.

Only film adaption of Stephen King I've never liked though is the Children of the Corn and Dreamcatcher

This is really true. The film remake especially of Children of the Corn is very off-based of the old film. Sadly, I never watched Dreamcatcher.

Yeah, it's true : They're mostly bad. Just feels that the remakes where made by desperate people which couldn't find a story ( that just came out of nowhere...).

But the thing is that when you already watched the first one, you already know how everything happened. It's just like watching a movie 2 times. The first time you enjoy the story, you enjoy the new feelings and stuff. The second time you see the details, you see nearly every single mistake/abnormal thing int the movie. So basically the first time you don't concentrate on the details; the second time you get cocky on the details.

Well, I find it unusual that the director of Dreamcatcher was Lawrence Kasdan, who was also the writer for the original Star Wars films and Indiana Jones: ROTLA. Dreamcatcher had a good cast but it was the story that ruined it really.

Michael Bay usually comes to my thoughts when I think "desperate".

Meh film remakes aren't bad as game made into films.... Ugh the super mario movie is haunting me as long as I live... That dvd case taunting me in the dvd shelf ... Ahhhh.... The doom movie was bad too... But to stay on topic I think it depends on what film they are trying to remake. The worst film remake ever IMO must be the day the earth stoos still..

I was given both the DOOM movie and the Resident Evil film as gifts and they both sucked, BADLY.

I've only ever watched the original version of TDTESS. Not too sure about the newest one, although it does have Keanu Reeves starring in it.

Watching Resident Evil 3 (Extinction) on TV right now...

... and it's shit. (And even more sad : that's the only thing there's to watch right now )

It turned into an action movie.

The last one (4) is even worse than the others. (Well the first and second ones where OK because they actually had a story line... )

I still can't believe that Paul W. S. Anderson won't quit making the film series though, I can only assume that hollywood is trying to make millions of $$$ from it.

Only film I can tolerate from that director though is Event Horizon, a psychological horror film set in space, which was used as inspiration for the videogame Dead Space.

Doesn't sound like the best combination that you could have. I couldn't see Marvel crossing over with the world of George A. Romero.

First two blade films were good, the second one was created by spanish director Guillermo Del Toro who did a pretty awesome job on it.
